How did I do? This car is a blast and much less insane than the m3. Frozen grey on magma. Happened to be available new at my dealer and picked it up off the showroom. Glad to be part of the Z4 club, finally!

Sure! We picked up a tesla “on sale” for commuting, and we have the x5 for family trips and wife’s commute (we have 3 young children, it’s a third row x5)… so the practicality of the m3 was no longer necessary, became the weekend car. But the main reasons for switching... I’d been looking at Porsche 718 and 911, but they’re prices have become… far too high. And you have to really stay on top of them when driving, not exactly a relaxing or comfortable experience. This gen m3 has some drawbacks. It’s more of a track-focused setup than previous M3’s. The power delivery is laggy then warp drive, which is a bit dangerous sometimes. It’s a beast. I like to drive in the mountains, and the long wheelbase without RWS makes for a less agile driving experience. It’s heavy, too - vs our f80 comp manual it’s +400lbs. It’s a difficult daily driver imo, which some people will disagree with. The final issue was how much attention it drew. The kids and wife were happy I sold it, let’s put it that way. More positively, the z4 is an amazing roadster. For the price, the combo of power, efficiency, elegance, design, comfort, and tech… is hard to beat. And I’ve always wanted one, ever since the z4 debuted in the Clive Owen short film. Glad I finally pulled one! This color combo is sweet, too. Thanks for asking.

Have no interest is selling mine, both the Z4 & M4 are keepers, but wondered did you sell the used M3/4 for a profit over purchase price when you both made the swap?
When I got mine a lot of guys were flipping the M3/4's for a profit.

No. I paid MSRP, drove 9k miles, and traded it in to the same dealer I bought it from.... saved on ad valorem taxes so basically a wash. I actually got money back on the trade so it was nice to work it out that way. The Z4 was loaded, the MSRP was $78k.

Hmm, your car is now a year old. When I decided to buy there were a lot of my22 cars available but no discount. So I bought a ‘23 for less, they lowered some options. If you plan on keeping for a long time, not a big deal.

Funny you mention this. I had an offer on a 2022 and it was still more than ordering a new 2023 with the exact same options. Only thing that was missing was the 50th anniversary badge on the 2023.

I am truly indifferent on them. Looks like you can still buy them via the BMW accessories website if I did want to swap them out.

Well, it's a "year old" in model year, but it's brand new ... I really don't mind especially since I didn't have to agonize over the build and the production and delivery wait.

I agree, but since my X3 has them I’m glad my Z does also. Neither car spec’d by me.

Bimmerfun82 That's quite the change. How do you feel about the exhaust ...louder/quieter on the Z4?
What do you think of the M3 vs Z4 seats? (And I'd be surprised if the Z4 drew less attention, especially with the top down.) Quote:
We have a thread here on washing the Z4. https://g29.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1915859 Charles

Respectively disagree - the z4 will definitely draw less attention. The G8x is a real draw, like a cult classic. Most people will see me as the old man that I am, just enjoying a roadster. Not trying to prove anything and wanting to race and talk in traffic and randomly walk up to me everywhere I go to discuss the car, etc. The z4 feels more comfortable immediately, seats are a bit more padded or soft, I think, especially the head rest. The merino leather is really nice in the m3 though. But I’m fine with the seats. |

Great choice. I also tired of the noise and harshness of several M’s.
Z4 is one heck of a package and I’m glad it’s rare as ‘F’ here too. Just got word mines an early Marxh build and early April collection, yes!!
