Congrats you won't be disappointed. Let me guess you got it for your wife?

You know I got married at age 21, but even now almost a decade later, I'd still give her the M3 and keep the z4. Wives usually want 4 seats and practicality. While this is true for most wives, unfortunately mine thinks the z4 is the best looking car of any bmw now and prefers 2 seats lol.

I'd say you will find that the z4 can take corners just as fast as the M3 if not better. The z4 dances around corners in ways the M3 only takes because of some amazing engineering and suspension work. The z4 neither oversteers and especially doesn't understeer. It just effortlessly takes corners or violently can lurch you from one lane to the other in half a second or less and still remain perfectly smooth and in control. I remmeber some lady drive up to me and tell me how amazing my z4 just zooms side by side. It's that good and underrated. My recent loaner was a 430i. Complete boat and trash handling. The m440i would probably be similar even with the M adaptive suspension. I can't imagine the M4 doing any better naturally unless you really do some crazy engineering. They're a good straight line missile though

YES I tell her got it for her... however, she doesn't believe me.

We're both 40, but since it's our 3rd car we share it and it's more a fun thing for us to do together (weekend drives, dates, etc). She's not as into cars as I am, so her daily will still be the X5.

I can't wait for a vigorous drive, but I do want to break it in even if this engine doesn't require the same process as the M. But I can already tell that it handles more effortlessly (dare I say better?) - pivots around me like a boxster as opposed to under or oversteer. The shorter wheelbase must have something to do with it as well. Will be fun!

Yes I have HUD!

BTW the fact it says 40/20/40 split rear seat and refrigerant included cracks me up.

Unless I overlooked it I find it strange that it isn't listed in your paperwork like it shows in mine.

Listing that 40/20/40 split rear seat is pretty funny.

On page 248 the manual does recommend 1200 miles and not to exceed 4500 rpm and 100 mph for the break-in and driving 200 miles for the tire traction to be optimal.

Thanks! You just saved me some time. That's roughly the same break-in guidelines as the M3, but I highly doubt it's necessary with this engine. But I'll probably follow the recommendation anyway - at least through 800 miles.

And speaking of tires, my rears were almost at the wear bars on the M3 after 9k miles (pirellis) ... they put Continental pro contact sports on the Z. They seem really nice so far, but I can't remember the last time I had a set of Continentals (if ever).

Yup. The shorter wheelbase helps a lot as well as the 3400lb weight compared to the m3/4 3800-4000lb weight. You can easily tune it to get 450wheel and 500 torque with just $800-$1500 in mods. And I'm being conservative. 450wheel in a small package plus the shorter wheelbase makes it on par with a stock m3 acceleration wise, but in corners, it can do a lot more.

My M40i came with 19” Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I think they switched tires late in the 2022 production.

You lucky duck! I keep losing the tire lottery. But I’m actually glad - I’ve been curious about these continentals.

I have had Michelin Pilot SS tires on my last 2 cars and really like them. They are the perfect tire for the wet and dry conditions I encounter in South Florida.

I found it surprisingly easy to break the 100mph limit, while ‘obeying’ the 4.5krpm…the car is so smooth.

I was driving at 95 mph on I-95 during my break-in period.

I had it and the wheels ceramic coated and it makes for effortless cleaning. As far as the paint goes, the matte soaps will be fine and the use of microfiber towels. Whatever you do, do not run it thru a car wash. As far as the top goes, store up and never down when wet.

Rust and corrosion, possibly mold, just not a good idea for sure. This is my 4th soft top bmw, and I’ve never had a problem. May have folded it when a bit damp but never wet… I wouldn’t sweat it too much but definitely avoid leaving it folded if damp. These tops are so good now at not absorbing water that I doubt it’s a huge issue.

No problem for short periods, mold and mildew for longer periods not to mention the interior collects dust much faster.
