I'd take a night to drive to Yellowstone and I highly recommend going through from east to west. Some people think my tip is more of an inland tip but dangie is European, he would appreciate the roads on the way to west and he would absolutely go nuts over the path back to the coast.

If you go with some regularity, recommend global entry and sentri (if you drive your own car). Last time I was down there the global entry line was about 5 minutes. Honestly the best $100 bucks I've spent on travel. I typically park my car on the US side and walk over and back.

It is after all 'America's Finest City', it's one of favorite places to go the weather is great, food is awesome and the girls are hot! What more can you ask for!

Half Moon Bay is worth a stop. The Ritz Carlton hotel there is famous and has nice grounds open to the public for walking alongside the bluffs.

I just stayed there a couple weeks ago. The hotel itself was just OK, but the location and overall experience made it worth it.

I go to Phil's at least once a month. Love the place, but Texas BBQ > Phil's. If you decide to go to Phil's, I prefer to go to the Rancho Bernardo one. It's not as busy as the Morena store. There are other smaller places to try as well. One that I still need to try is Corbin's. Heard it's good. They started out at farmers markets and recently have opened a small brick and mortar in the past few months.

Here is my opinion, but I warn you, these are fighting words down here. Phil's is mediocre BBQ at best. It got big because there aren't many good options around here. Literally every other state I've been to pretty much has better BBQ. So if you are expected a legendary pulled pork/tri tip/ribs (or even just OK), I think you will be disappointed. It's Southern California decent, but general Southern BBQ... bad. Before I had a job where I traveled a lot I thought it was great. After I've seen the light... it's barely palatable.

What I did like that was decent was a place called "That Boy Good" in Oceanside. It was tasty and they smoke their wings, which gives in a unique flavor.

I agree. I had ribs in other states, and they really were good. I will have to try Miss Kim's by That Boy Good. We usually go to Local Tap House, which is okay (mostly seafood), but I don't mind new places. Thanks

Dont underestimate the interests of German tourists
Solvang looks very nice, has a close relation to Denmark and seems very familiar to northgerman people. Also the route from LA through Santa Barbara up to Solvang seems to be very nice, problem is the big necessary backmove to Las Vegas via the roads, we must turn over to Bakersfield (if we wont turn back same way) and then zig-zag heading to Vegas. Actually no problem, we've got time enough and after all experiences sometimes you would be welcomed into small cities more than into anonymeous molochs like LA.
During my Air Force time is was more than three times into San Diego and yeah, this would be my favorite city to live if considered any time

€dit: Forget one thing to mention, we would pick up our loaner into LA before leaving to Las Vegas. But if I see and calculate the distances and planned visiting points in San Diego I would probably change the plans. Anyone knows about the public traffic abilities like busses or trains? Thank you.

Start from San Diego head over to Los Angeles then take route 395 all the way to Lee Vining and take a left onto 120 to Tioga Pass. Head over to Yosemite. You can backtrack and take the 120 to 395 again towards Lake Tahoe or take the 49 and take the 88 and enjoy a super scenic drive to Lake Tahoe. After, drive up to Portland and visit Mount Hood. Then take the 5 go down to 199. Visit Redwood and Klamath and check out the insane views. Hop on to the 101 and when you hit Leggett, take the 1 all the way down to back to LA stopping by Mendocino, Sea Ranch, Point Reyes, SF, Carmel, Big Sur, Elephant seals place, Morro Bay, and finally Malibu/Santa Monica.

Don't rush it tho

Yeah I'd change that plan. San Diego doesn't really do public transportation. The only notable transport is a trolley that can take you through some areas downtown pretty quickly (but so can a pedi cab) and a train that moves along the coastline. Trust me, you don't want to get on a bus here. Plus there are awesome roads around here. Get a car, you won't regret it.

Musts: Yosemite, Bubba Gumps on the Wharf (best view of Alcatraz, and good food, ask for the "theater" seats at the end of the restaurant), I would recommend the Cosmopolitan in Vegas. But gamble Downtown.
Hoover dam is good. I'm sure the Grand Canyon is worth the trip also. My fav 2 beaches in San Diego are La Jolla and Ocean beach.
