If they put the S58 in the Supra and not the Z, I’m going to start a RIOT.

I don't see it as an S motor. I don't see BMW letting anyone re-badge a real M motor.
It's done in F1, but I just don't see it in a retail setting.

I believe they did give an X5M S engine to the Range Rover Sport recently but I don't remember if that was just articles stating that it was coming or whether they actually did it. So that wouldn't leave it out the realm that a Supra would get an S engine. It would be rather annoying if a similar Z4M didn't come out with the same spec though.

Adrian Van Hooydonk (Head of Design, BMW Group) has said Z4 isn’t compatible with the S58 engine — so it shouldn’t be an option for the Supra either

Could be only aero and suspension tweaks. Japanese manufacturers tend to do this in the later years of their sports cars. S2000 CR comes to mind.

Speculation that this potentially new Supra will run 100k+ If that happens a Z4 M would cost even more. If the media thinks a 65k is too much already for a Z4, then wait till they get a load of a possible Z4M approaching or over 100k. |

Interesting read.
The fact that it suggests the Z4M with an S58 after it’s been confirmed the s58 isn’t applicable to the g29/j29 chassis is interesting. Would be super cool to get a limited run Z4M though. |

The C&D article sounds like a lot of rumor reporting and speculation to me, especially with the BMW Head of Design comments to the contrary for the Z4.

“While a level of skepticism should be maintained, most of the details speculated in recent months now seem quite plausible. However, the likelihood of some of the specifics depends on how persuasive Toyota was in securing BMW's most potent straight-six engine for this endeavor.”
No one knows, and it’s highly unlikely IMO. The single biggest “specific” is securing the engine. Laughable. That said, Porsche had created headroom with their prices up 20% for space in the market for a $100k 2 seater coupe. And other similar vehicles are being killed off. I would certainly buy one. |

Guys, I was thinking an M2 manual is the closest thing we will get to an M coupe. Just take the "2" off the car, lower it 2 inches, fix the front end, and take out the back seats. Thoughts?

I have a hard time with the design of the M2. Too boxy IMO. The M240i looks like the sloth from Ice Age.

I've thought a lot about an M4 CV, even as recently as this AM as a couple of decent local deals popped up in my in-box. But I think an M2 CV would be more fun, even if down on power a little from it's big brother. Some random render from a quick google search. Not bad looking in my opinion.

Good point. 200 lbs would prob be sufficient bc carbon pack drops it slightly to maybe 3780?
rear seats -70 (?) lightweight battery -30 Forged wheels -25 Less sound deadening -15 Lightweight glass -20 CF hood and trunk -20 Lose 20 pounds off mah belly = 3580 |
