This is my daughter on her pony Ralph riding round our farm. Can you spot the camouflaged dog? He's a Vizsla so tends to blend in with the Autumn colours.

Took my dads dog in when he passed. He was 12 years old, so I figured it would not be a long term gig......2.5 years later - he is still ticking! LOL - here he is on the job 5-6 years before my old man passed when we took him out for a day of Quail hunting.

She is now 4 months old what a difference in 1 month makes. She is so chilled and yet so much fun. Best part she is a girl magnet.

Some say that dogs that cross their paws in front of them tend to be well behaved.

Our older Boston (Tobi, 7yrs) does this and he is super chill and well behaved. Our younger one, Baxter (1.5yrs) does not and is really sweet and getting better but can still out pace a spyder monkey on PCP. Baxter does not cross his paws. lol

Yes sir - 14.5 years old and still going strong. Lived outside 100% of the time till he was 12 years old with free reign of 160 acres. Now he is a inside dog. Still prefers it outside, but he is getting use to the heat in the winter......LOL

Looking a little older in the face these days.

Amazing. He looks great. They're so energetic and eager to please. I hunted upland game behind one in my early teens, a friend's dog. She was a sweetie.

You just described him to a tee. So docile it is unnerving. Can't get him to bark to save my soul, unless he see's a coyote. He hates them. He is so mild mannered it is spooky sometimes. Not crazy about having a pet again (living alone and traveling a lot - makes it tough) but he really is a pretty trouble free pooch. Just goes with the flow all the time. I bring him to work a lot and he just chills in my office all day till I am ready to leave.

I bet my father is just shaking his head up there watching his dog become a house princess.......... LOL

Our Mexican rescue dog, he is now a year old and seems to adapted to the climate up here in Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦... We named him "Peso", fun dog and he loves his home.

My friend's dog, Queenie, would lay across our feet while we watched TV on a fall evening. And snore. I don't recall her ever looking out the windows of their house, even though they had floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out over groves of oak and walnut trees where dozens of squirrels were scrambling around.

But if she caught sight of a gun case - even if we were just cleaning them in advance of hunting the next morning - she went berzerk. If I showed up at the door with my canvas hunting vest on and a shotgun over my shoulder, she couldn't contain herself.

Fantastic pointer. We'd often hunt really heavy cover where birds were hard to flush and would just scamper from one clump of bullrush to another. She never gave up. She'd flush that bird if she had to bite it in the ass to get it airborne.

Anyone who's never experienced hunting with a dog or dogs has missed out on one of the most intense and gratifying experiences there are.

Agreed! I hate that people who like to hunt now, will never know what upland bird hunting was like "in my day". We always had dogs. My father would pick me up after school and we could limit out before dark. Now you have to hunt all day with 3 people to even hope to get a single limit. A lot of my fondest memories were of hunting with my father and all his brothers who all had dogs and we'd be out there every weekend. Didn't even chase singles - just looked for the next covey.

Jake has not been on a hunt in many years, but he still gets all wound up when he see's a gun in my hands. Almost breaks my heart when I dig a rifle out for a coyote hunt, then have to leave him in the house after he has himself all lathered up. Need to take him for a "hunt" just to give him a chance to pretend to be looking for birds and burn some energy I guess. He does not have a lot of hunts left in him, so I guess I owe him that. LOL

Onslow is a 'multi-purpose' breed, one of his skills being to course for birds. He flushes birds regularly; it's pretty cool!

The last time I hunted upland game was in about 2003 in South Dakota, near Fort Pierre. The pheasant population was at peak. I had a great local guide. I could have shot my limit carrying a blunderbuss from the 1600s. It was like shooting trap. Almost too easy.
