2021 Mach 1 Mustang

Looking forward to some specs. I hope the hush hush release means it's a GT350 Chassis, suspension, cooling and trans swapped with a Gen 3 (or 4?) Coyote with modified intake, but all the reliability of the Coyote 5.0. And 500hp. "The most track ready 5.0" means better than GT PP2, and the next benchmark is GT350 itself. I'm curious, and stoked to see the specs and price.

And in case you're wondering why I'm excited about a Mustang. Here is the lightning lap of the 2018 PP2.

I think it'll be the GT350 chassis and most likely the bullitt engine. An inbetweener.

I just don’t see it getting the widened front end treatment the gt350 does.

Heard rumors that this will be replacing the GT350 in the lineup. If so, it has some big shoes to fill as the GT350 is one hell of a car, and sounds so amazing.

I also came across this information. Apparently the Predator will be the only 5.2L motor in not too distant future. I will miss the sound of the Voodoo, but the Coyote sounds good too. I think the biggest bright side will be improved reliability of the 5.0 vs the Voodoo.

And another article stipulating even more power and placement between GT and GT500, further adding to the idea that GT350 will be retired soon. It also mentions Tremec 3160 as the trans. So 6 speed manual FTW!

"The last Mustang Mach 1 produced in 2004 slotted in between the Mustang GT and Mustang Cobra, so expect the new model to slot in between the Mustang GT and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The latter is the most powerful street-legal Mustang ever made with 760 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque on tap, so we expect the new Mach 1 will deliver around 500-600 horsepower. The Mach 1 is one of the most beloved Mustangs, so enthusiasts will be thrilled if it makes a comeback."

They got the TQ of the GT500 wrong, but still interesting.

Something like the Mustang version of Corvette's "Grand sport" would be absolute perfection.

Would this not be the Mustang GT 1LE? They’ve been trying to match Chevy but always end up behind for handling, PP2 took forever and still wasn’t quite as aggressive, the 350 was always good, but not long after it came out the 1LE was besting the 350 and was damn close to the 350R. I can see they want to regain a bit, maybe 1up the 1LE, but that would be the more comparable product. Ford is more a “one trick pony” with just one 2-door sports chassis for the masses.

Yeah, looks like a GT350 Lite to me. Guess when you get back to the states you'll be picking one up?

I'm not a Chevy expert, so I think this might be six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Is the 1LE/Grand Sport not just the Z06/Zl1 without forced induction?

Even the Camaro 1LE is faster than the GT PP2. I'd say the Vette probably compares more directly with the GT350...

I think the PP2 was supposed to be the 1LE challenger, and in the video in my first post you'll see it actually was quicker than the 1LE at the lightning lap. Just not as composed. Lot to do with Sport Cups the 2PP was wearing. With 30-40 more HP, some more TQ, and the GT350 chassis, cooling and trans I think this will be the car to best the 1LE. At similar price, VS the GT350.

It's high on the list. I have not been this excited about a car for a while. And as you know I have a soft spot for Mustangs. I've been wanting a reason to want a Mustang again, but it's been hard to be honest. Till this.

The funny thing is that the thought "...but I would really miss the BMW active diff and I-Drive" has already crossed my mind.

That's a great way to put it. And perhaps at last there could be a happy medium between too powerful, too heavy and prone to overheating for track work supercharged bruiser like the GT500, and a slightly under-cooled yet overtired PP2 (which is prone to diff overheating).

GT350 with a more reliable engine, making near same power sounds perfect. Fingers crossed.

Would it be too much to ask for it to loose a few pounds?

Hopefully it keeps the GT350's EPS, as it has a lot more feel than the regular Mustang's.

I see what you did there!

On the other hand Ford develops IRS for the Mustang in 2015, a decade behind everyone else, and the car gains 150lbs.

Even with all that weight, the 2015 GT PP1 I had for a while was an absolute blast on the track

I hear you. I had the 14 GT Track Pack with the solid rear. Still faster than 90% of cars which showed up for track days.

That’s why it’s a quiet wish, not a must!
