Final Cut Pro X Announced

I wish these conferences had live streams. Apple just introduced the latest final cut pro to the public. Can't wait to get my hands on this thing, production time is gonna be cut in half.

-64 bit
-Background rendering
-Automatic audio clean up
-Edit as you import

background redering isnt gonna work. Macs arent strong enough to pull that off. Maybe if its really low quality footage it might work, would be nice if it works though.

Somehow I think my Mac Pro will do fine with it.

8-core Mac Pro with Westmere procs should be enough, imo.

I think apple is confused. They mark this as a "Pro" app but its gonna be available on the app store for $299. I'm not complaining about the price but my Final Cut Studio came with 7 DVDs with a boat load of content.

Need to see more to make up my mind but for now it looks like iMovie Pro not FCP

Mine is an 8 core Harpertown (early 2008) and I'm sure it will be fine. I'm not on deadlines, so waiting a little longer doesn't hurt me.

And I'm glad that this is being shipped digitally because I hate keeping track of my huge FCS2 box full of DVDs. That said I do wonder what this means for the future of FCS. I also hope that Red Giant is able to get Magic Bullet Looks updated to work with FCPX pretty quickly.

if you haven't seen these two videos of the NAB presentation, you must.

don't think i'll wait now, as long as i can run it side-by-side with my current install, just in case.

some bad ass stuff in this new version.

ya i saw it this morning. I also read that this was a beta build from february and is not even close to the final version. Gotta say some of these new features look sick!

I feel like they made a lot of things better but also made some things worse. Don't like the fact that they took out the viewer/filters/motion tab. Seems like you gotta go through a lot of clicks to get to simple things. Also the way I/O is done now is sort of weird. Wonder how multiclips are gonna work. They said something about it automatically matching clips like pluraleyes which should be a major time saver.

Over all it looks awesome and I'm sure you can run it side by side since its a completely different program. I'll hold judgement until the final version, but when apps like this are completely redesigned, sometimes the developer forgets little details that make the product.

exactly. which is why i'll only get it if can run both without any issues to my current install.
the audio-sync, color matching, key-framing and grouping all look like total time savers. can't wait.
so is Color basically built-in now?

not completely. They borrowed a lot of the features from color, motion, and soundtrack. The match color grade command is the biggest time saver in my opinion.

Nice. I still may just get FCP7 since it's been out for a while. Plus, tons of knowledgeable people to ask for help. But X looks really cool.

yes. In fact, you need the latest version of Snow Leopard to run it.

The thing that bugs me is that it looks too much like iMovie... I will stick with 7 for now.
