M40i weight distribution

Just wondering if anyone here has the info on the weight of each corner of the M40i?

In the review video of Savagegeese, he shows the weight distribution of the SDrive30i to be F50.38%:R49.62%. So I am wondering if the M40i also gets the nice 50:50 weight distribution with a bigger and heavier engine? I have yet to see any review or video showing the weight distribution of the M40i. After a quick search on this forum, there is no such info either.

If you have weighted your car or if you have such info from somewhere, could you please kindly share with me. Thank you so much in advance.

I've been hearing near 50-50 from various YouTube reviews.

M40 maybe 55/45 because of engine weight. Unless they put more plastic on the b58.

You're probably right. The M40i weighs 105kg (230lbs) more than the 30i. Unless BMW put some lead in the trunk to counterbalance () the car's balance has to be front biased. All that additional engine weight is in front of the axle, too.

Thats easy to find out
M40 weight minus 30i weight should be 105 k.
If its more, then they added lead to the back of the M40

Think as the engine sits behind the axel centerline some of the weight shifts to the rear. Also the published weight has to be some kind of "standard" car as options will move the balance around

Anyone really interested can hit some local truck scales for a few bucks, get a total weight then the weight on one end. Close enough for government work

Hmmm... Interesting. So no one else has really make a measurement yet. I also lean towards the front heavy theory, which I also feel a bit when driving. But just want to confirm it.

Hope someone in this forum has the chance to weight it and let us know.

Cheers.

Weight Distribution of 6 cylinder Supra

In the Savagegreese 6 cylinder Supra review, he weighted it to be 52.23% Front and 47.77% Back.

I would assume the M40i to be close to the Supra?

What you think?

The Z4 will be a hair or two towards the back due to the extra structural support for a vert.

I’m not sure how to read that. I don’t think it means 1555 front to 1630 back, that would be 3185 kg total which is equal to over 7000 pounds. I believe it means 1555 kg then 1630 for DIN/EU which is a European standard that Germany uses. So I’m not sure what that information is really conveying.

Overall, I don’t think that data sheet defines the weight ratio.

I’m happy to be corrected though.

I haven’t been able to find the source but I’m pretty sure I remember reading that the weight ratio for the M40i was 50.6 to 49.4 front to back. I remember that because when I read it I said to myself, “Self, if only they could have shaved another .2% points off the front it would round to a perfect 50/50”. As it stands now the best they can do is say near 50/50 which is as true as you can get.

Not really. The front and rear max loads are different but that isn't going to be the same as front and rear weights.

But I'm pretty sure I remember reading it was 50.6 to 49.4. Just can't find the source. Wish I had at least screen captured it.

Regardless, it's close enough to 50/50 that depending on how far up or back your seat is could be enough to tilt it one way or the other.

Not that unusual. Have has a few cars with the engine behind the front axel centerline, Corvettes, Z4, COBRA & all were/are weight biased to the rear wheels. You can see from this how far back the engine can be. On my COBRA the red shock top is at the axel center line.

Car is @ 44/56

These cars should be classified as Front Mid Engine cars. The term Mid Engine is a given when the engine is behind the driver but infront of the rear axel centerline
