Side M emblems on M40i?
Hi noticed original videos and pics on Euro models have the side M badges but all pics on US ones so far have no M badges. Anyone else notice this? wondering if can be requested to add at factory vs some not so good aftermarket which would involve drilling and gluing which don't want to do.
My 2007 Z4 M Coupe I just sold had these on the side and would love to have them on the new M40i just ordered. Wondering why Euro ones would add them but not US version.... Ted |

i'm pretty sure they are not drilled badges. they are just stickers with 3m tape.
I'm sure you can order them. In euro market / canada / asia apparently even m sport models have those side badges (like m sport sdrive20i etc) |

Haha. yes makes perfect sense - don't like that M brand diluted! but quite frankly this is an M car and why I am buying it. 3.9 sec to 60 in US version I believe is on par w M2 and M4. I heard no M version was coming due to this performance. But understand the issue! I will be looking for some aftermarket to add definitely! love how they look on the Frozen Grey I ordered and gotta have em!

I have to admit I would prefer having the badges, but I would feel silly putting them on! I was also a little sad to see we don't get the M stripe seatbelts in the US.

M side badges are standard on all BMW M-Sport models in Euro spec so even if it's a 118i M-Sport you get the "M designation on front side panel, left and right"

Their increasing trend of more and more signage not withstanding, the little m on the side was one that i was actually looking forward to. Ill probably still remove the rest, but those little ones were going to stay... if they didnt skip them in the US

hmmm; I was just checking online and saw a white M40i on a dealers lot in Calgary and it has the M badges on the side so maybe we do get them in Canada. .....I guess I'll find out in a week or so when my car gets here.
Cheers, Dave |

I don't see why your local dealer can't order a set of these M logo badges. Mind you, I'm not sure how much they would charge ..... probably far too much!!!
And they only stick on so very easy to fit. |

Also, I am guessing there will be an actual M version at some point. BMW won't miss a chance to make money.

haven't driven it so cant say but probably not as it is missing the M differential I believe. For me the badge is fine but more important is how it makes you feel driving it so if the combination of engine, handling powering through curves (i.e. m differential and direct steering), some edge to it are deciding criteria. Will leave it to someone else here who has driven one to know. If I was buying that big and heavy of a car think I would want the great handling from the rear differential as a must have and would get the M5. Lots of cars out there with great power and 0-60 but lacking in handling, steering, Feeling! After driving the M40i instantly realized it was a great car and had to pick it up whether it had the true M on it or not - fun factor. Wish I still had the Z4 M Coupe (just sold) as it would be fun to drive them back to back. Only weakness on that car was not the strongest shifter and not best daily driver on bumpy roads (not as bad as a Lotus Elise but bumpy - my wife would never want to take it with me up to Napa so welcome comfort mode in new car when she is in car w me!). I considered keeping it and making it just a track car where it would be an absolute blast. Only drawback on new car is it would be nice to have a manual. This will be my first car ever without a stick.

It's a great car regardless of the semantical argument we are having. I just spec'd one for my mom on Friday. July production with September delivery.
San Fran Red with Cognac interior.
