Got my Z4 M40i yesterday
I'm new to this forum. Last week I went to my local BMW dealer to order a 2025 Z4 M40i. Skyscraper Gray, Magma red, loaded. The salesman priced out my build and came back with these additional charges:
Market adjustment............$5,000.00 Dealer "Add-Ons"............... 2,000.00 Dealer fees.........................1,199.00 License/registration................500.00 $8,699.00 over sticker, plus state sales tax. So, before the sales tax, the car was close to $83,000.00. Almost $90K with sales tax! I went home, looked on Autotrader, and the same car, (a used 2023 with only 2,000 one owner miles), with those colors, and every conceivable option, was listed for $61,000.00. That's $22K less than my friendly local BMW dealer. I brought it home yesterday. Showroom new. Lucky find. Love the car. |

Congrats! Glad you did some research and got a reasonable price. This is a great car, but I hope not one pays over sticker for it!

Dealer fees, license and registration are common charges. The other $7k is garbage. Congrats on a smarter financial decision!! Enjoy!!

Break-in complete. Enjoy!
On one extreme you can buy new and pay 9k over sticker, or do like myself and yourself and buy slightly used at 9k under sticker. I don't personally see where the 18k in value lies, other than "piece of mind" or something like that....I will settle for slightly used every time.

Your dealer is out of their mind if they're intending to charge a markup on these.
I sent a couple emails when looking for mine last August and got offers for a custom order under MSRP from 3 different dealers and "MSRP" from about 3-4 more (I did get one more who said "come by" and one "call us", which I took to mean they weren't serious about wanting my business. Though now that I think about it, it may have meant they wanted a mark-up). Ultimately went with one that offered 5% off. |

Thanks all for the friendly welcome. Having owned a few BMW's, including an 02 M Roadster, I will say that this Z4 M40i is a great car.

I had a 99 m roadster - the 240hp version. The m40 I have now is worlds apart (& better) in every respect.
Slightly used is the way to go.

Unfortunately, when I purchased my Z4 it was during Covid. There was a used car shortage where they were selling at a premium and supply chain issues on new models so the pricing between the CPO's with low mileage and a new car was almost the same so I opted for a new one. |

I went new because I've been considering replacing the 135i for like 3 years now, and finally there was a car I wanted and I wasn't thrilled about waiting even longer. Also wasn't 100% sure what a used manual Z4 might look like in 6 months or a year or two... Practically every car ever made is worth waiting on and let some other sucker take the initial hit. But after missing out on a 1M and watching them just get harder to find and more expensive I knew I'd be kicking myself if that happened again.

I'd have already been driving a CPO Z4 if there were any with a 3rd pedal. If you want a CPO 6 cyl, 3-pedal convertible roadster, you have 2 options: Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0 and Porsche Spyder.

Good move. Most of the BMWs I've bought over the years were 'lightly' used. I think the highest mileage one was 2 yo with 12k miles. My E89 was 4 months old and had less than 2k miles.
The only reasons I bought my G29 new were, 1) My wife wanted Thundernight and being new at the time meant no used ones available, and 2) even if I accepted a different color, I just couldn't find one equipped the way I wanted (pretty much everything but wireless charging.) As a plus, I got to do PCD. Probably won't buy new again.

I checked them out when I was looking for mine early last year. They wanted a $10k ADM, but were giving me a deal by cutting it to $5k. I walked out.

I figured that it would be easy to connect the dots to the dealership. Excessive dealer fees and ridiculous lowball trade-in allowances. Stay away.

Good move going with the lightly used Z4! New was too expensive for me to consider so found a CPO 2021 last year, saving about 20k from new. No regrets, the depreciation is steep and just enough are available used with good mileage.

That is my preferred way to buy any car. Partly for the savings and partly because I'm too old to wait to have one built.
