Thinking of going Z4 after 230i convertible lease

Looking for opinions and/or advice from going from a x-drive 230i convertible to a Z430i. The M40i is out of my budget.

Will be my daily driver even in the snow. Winter/snow tires a must.

I'm on my 2nd 230i lease up in July 2021.
I love my car, however it will be discontinued in 2021.

The 2 series coupe will be remodeled.

My choices are 2021 M240i x-drive convertible. (hope to build) or Z4 30i

Thanks,

I traded a '18 230ix (non-convertable) in on this 30i Z4. My wife originally bought the 230 but she wanted to get back into a SUV so I traded my F-type 'vert that was going out of warranty for an SUV for her and I ended up with the 230. It was pretty loaded loaded up with M sport and other options.

I drove the 230 for around 3 months and traded it in on a '19 Z4. The 230 wasnt a bad car, and honestly if it was a convertible I probably would have kept it. The interior of the Z4 is nicer for sure with the updated 7/8ish series dash and the Z4 seats are a little nicer. You lose a lot of interior storage (no back seat of course), Z4 its a little shorter overall but has more front overhang so steep driveways will scrape.

I had nothing against the 230, just wanted another convertible, but they are really two different cars. To me the biggest difference between them is the 230 is a pretty pedestrian looking BMW, the Z4 looks 'all new' and time will tell how it ages.

Thats a tough one. The Z4 is smaller and more nimble, however the inline-6 would be a nice upgrade from the 30i 4-cylinder. If it was me, I'd get the 240, but thats because I'm a cylinder snob and prefer a good ol' I6 to I4 any day, but of course your preference may differ. Some benefits of the 240 would be that you are already well acquainted and comfortable with your car, not to mention you would have x-drive for the winter, but honestly RWD and snow tires will be plenty fine, and the 2 would likely be more practical in cargo space, bigger/roomier interior, as well as a set of rear seats and easier to get in ride height, but then again, not too sure of what your preferences are.

I'm not sure when, but the Z4 is also likely to be discontinued after this generation, so another option would be to possibly buy out the lease.

Both are great cars, but I highly recommend you test drive both before making a decision.

I have both a 2015 M235 Coupe and a 2020 Z4 M40i. Love them both. M235 is the all weather DD car.
I would definitely go with the 6 cylinder - the sound alone is worth it. The 2-series can serve as a DD, the Z4 less so.
I looked at the M240 vert and the Z4 runs circles around it when used as intended.

z4 all the way

I see your in NY. Like myself! Don't worry about winter it doesn't exist anymore. When it does snow its gone in 2 days. All seasons and your all set. Had Z4 since 2014 and never let winter bother me. I dont have to but i find myself using as daily driver. Plenty of boot space and pass seat. Never a Problem. With top down, Plenty of tall plants found its way home in the Z4. I see a 2 series every day. I see Z4 almost never
