A fair review IMO, even if they fail to mention the Porsche's 50% cost premium...

This is actually a good picture of the Z4 - I have a Z4 as well, and I do like the looks of both cars, but the Z4 looks definitely more modern, and more aggressive, than the Boxster in this picture.

50% premium for P-car, lesser interior...and speed/handling benefits are negligible for 90% of drivers. I'm still in the Z4 camp. Also hoping they add air scarf on it!

agree 100%

for 50% more I would have said screw it and gone crazy beyond and done a really special more expensive car and it would not be a P. loving this car as think it is an amazing value given performance, comfort, power, uniqueness, etc.

MSRP Base price for the other car is $71k, so not that much of a price differential.

That's what Porsche would like you to believe but unless you like driving cars with zero options, when you price them out similarly equipped the price difference is STAGGERING. In my case, the Z4 was $81,500 Can. to the Boxster S's $117,500 and the Z4 was slightly better optioned. ....so I may have exaggerated, the difference isn't 50%, it was 45% ;-)

Right, fair point. I didn't realize it would take that many options to make it comparable in spec, but I probably should have known. Porsche are known for their expensive options.

My Boxster build would have cost me 30k more for similar options as my Z4. If I invest that 30k I will have enough to buy another Z4 (Z5?) in 10 years, if they are still being made. Here is an example of how Porsche will nickel and dime you.

Regretfully BMW announced there won't be an LCI or replacement for the G29 at this time. Believe EOP is 2023 some time.

The sales of the 2019 Z4 in the U.S. should be near 3,000 by the end of the year. That is similar to sales in 2011 and 2012. I don't know how many BMW needs to sell for it to be profitable. At a minimum, they will be selling something 10 years from now that I would be interested in buying.

Hello people. Maybe I am missing something. The 718vs Z4 comparison looks good for journalists, always hunting for a story, but in reality... how can we compare the two? One is mid-engine, the other one is front! To me that's enough difference to set them apart. Yes, yes, the price seems similar (it's not, you realize that as soon as you step into a Porche dealership... ) and they're both small convertible but if you like driving you know how different the car feel because of that detail, where the engine is. Please correct me and put me in my place if I deserve so.

Equal equipment to a $70,000 Z4 in a Boxster would be about $104,000.

Well I like P-cars

Drive the COBRA more then the Boxster but its real hard to make a case for a street driven one against a street driven Z4 on an item for item purchase. You have to give up quite a few things to come even close to a Z4 M40's price.

BTW like the COBRA the Z4 is a Front mid engine car & the Boxster is a rear mid engine car.

Also I do as little stepping into a dealership as I can so the store does not do much for making me want to pay a premium for a fancy showroom.

Here Hendricks sells both BMW & Porsche along with most other high end brands. No real difference in the stores. One plus I will give their Porsche store is the meet & greet invitation I get every year to see the latest GTML 911 & meet the drivers before the VIR Oak Tree Grand Prix. That said I also do their BMW corral at the race.
