Angry Laptop to TV via HDMI...no sound

Done this a million times to watch movies. Hook laptopto home theater receiver via HDMI cable. Now, all of a sudden, I get no sound no matter what I do, but video is fine. Tried all the normal fixes, but nothing helps.

Yes, HDMI device shows up & is set as default.

Any ideas?

Is the sound muted on your computer?

Nothing Apple over here outside my ipod, sorry.

No, the sound is not muted & plays fine through the laptop itself

Sorry, I got nothing else. I'm all Apple so I'm tapping out.

Can you try hooking the HDMI cable directly from the laptop to the TV? If the sound works that way, then the problem is most likely in the home theater receiver.

Yea, I figured out the receiver is being the PITA. I gave up & worked around it.

However, I then hooked my laptop up to my workstation (Via USB) on my desk & now I get no audio going to the speakers there out of the blue. This thing hates me

Check the playback devices and make sure HDMI is selected for your audio source.

If that doesn't work, update both your video and audio drivers. It's possible a Windows update is the issue, and updating drivers usually fixes it.

Simple fix. Took me a while to figure it out as well. If the laptop is powered on, when you connect the HDMI, restart it after the HDMI connection is made.

That was one of the many things I tried before posting.

I would check your source. For example on my laptop, I use realtek source as my laptop speaker output but as soon I plug into HDMI, my source changes to Invidia speaker output.

It goes to the right source when either is plugged in. Not sure wtf is wrong as all settings are correct, drivers are good, blah blah. I have restarted, uninstalled & reinstalled & all that stuff many times. Still not working. Makes no sense as both worked perfect & now, out of the blue, neither works. I didn't even mess with anything to cause it.

Are you using the workstation to play the video or the laptop?

If you go into the mixer do you see the sound bars EQ going up and down with no audio sound output?

Did you try restoring to a earlier point?
