Goodbye...

After much deliberation we are saying goodbye to our 3.0i.

Since Covid my wife has been reluctant to travel with the roof down as we live in a busy area with narrow streets.

A minor road-rage incident a couple of days ago made me realise how vulnerable we could be with the roof down.

The weather is still good here in the UK; sale prices are holding up and I got an offer I could live with so we made the decision to sell her (the car, not the wife) before the endless rain and cloudy days arrive.

We enjoyed the looks of the car, the wind in our hair, the sun on our heads, the compliments etc.

It's not all bad though, we pick up a brand new F87 M2 Competition tomorrow.

I sometimes think about selling or trading my Z4 just so I've only got 1 vehicle instead of two. Then I realize I just can't bring myself to sell it because I know I will completely regret it - more than any regret of money I have spent on it. This car got me through one of the worst years in recent history with the pandemic and was my escape route from the house. I never liked convertibles before, until I sat in a 2020 Z4.

It's funny how thinks work out. I loved the G29. Until Covid I have always loved convertibles (MR2, TT, SLK, Z4) but now I am glad to have a full roof over my head and not be tempted to put it down. Picked the M2 Competition up today. No regrets.

Near impossible to regret the M2. Its a little monster and a lot of fun. I too was thinking of the Z4, until the M2C came along...

She's gone

My driveway seems to be missing some glamour now that the Z4 has gone.

The M2C is a great car, much more fun than the Z4 3.0i, but it doesn't (in my eyes) look so special. But then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

For some reason the M2C looks much smaller than the Z4 whereas on paper the different in width is about 1cm, and it is longer.

No regrets.

What happened with the road rage to make you feel vulnerable with the roof down?

It was something and nothing really.

I had stopped to let some oncoming traffic through a bottleneck. Someone behind me must have been in a hurry and started sounding his horn.

A couple of minutes later we were waiting at some traffic lights, the same car drove past us and shouted at us.

My wife feels vulnerable anyway with the roof down. It got us thinking about stressed people and physical assaults. A friend of my wife's recently was punched through an open car window.

A good excuse for the M2 competition.

According to BMW’s web site the Z is faster with less HP? In fact it’s no faster than the regular M240 Xdrive? I get it may handle better, but for the extra money the M2 competition should be in the 3’s 0-60.

Z4 and covid

Sad that you had to give it up. Actually the only safe way to take a drive with a friend or a date during covid is in a Z4 with the top down and the infinite air circulation that happens. I cant describe now much I love driving my G29 on a sunny day. I have owned 6 BMWs before it and the emotional connection with the Z4 is very different. Everywhere I go in the car I have people walking up asking questions. Its like Im driving a rare and beautiful $100K+ sports car. I think its the most beautiful car BMW has built except maybe for the Z8.

If you lived in Canada, you would be driving a $100k car

I agree with you that it is a very good looking car, and I too used it with the top down to drive with a person not in my "bubble" as the ventilation is tremendous. Then I stopped at traffic lights and/or in traffic queues and suddenly having the top down made me feel very vulnerable when people were walking/queuing very close to me. In the end that was why it went.

Continue to enjoy yours, stunning colour.

I still driving with my top down. In crowed area, wear a surgical mask would be good enough.

Overkill, unless you mean parked and someone is in your face talking to you? I thought the OP was more worried about not having protection from a mob hit? Meaning no protection from physical abuse. You’re not going to catch Covid driving in a moving convertible!

Seriously, not getting a Z4 because of fearing Covid is comical

Could not imagine living my life ruled by fear.

This one has neither windows or a top & is a daily driver.

This one you strap on a parachute before you strap on the plane.
