Classic style grill?

I love the look of my g29, and it keeps growing on me, but one thing I haven't been able to get to like is the grill. Too busy, and too distracting, and just doesn't suit the rest of the design.

I changed mine to all black, but still really can't stand it.

Has anyone seen an aftermarket replacement in the classic vertical slat style?

At first I was not a fan of the new style grill on the g29 but now it is growing on me. It is very different to most other BMW’s but at the same time still recognisable as a BMW.

What put me off at first was that it looked very much like a copy of some Mercedes cars but now I am starting to accept the change in design.

Best stick with it for a while to see if it grows some more on you before you spend your hard earned money to change it again.

If I were you I would put the Cerium Grey grill back on and sell the black one. Just my opinion.

Wouldn't there be an M Performance (all gloss black) version of the grill from day the 30i.

I assume the dislike (which I share) is of the little triangle style of the 40i model grilles.

It’s been 4 months, can’t see it changing, it’ll be worth every penny if I could find one

I prefer the black one that’s on it now over the cerium one, it’s the pattern that I don’t like, the black one mutes the pattern slightly, but I’d still much prefer the old vertical slag style.

Ah sorry yes, tried an image search and could not find vertical slats....that would be why!

Yeah, on the three series they don’t all have the star pattern grill, so anyone that didn’t like it on the m340 has options, unfortunately not on the Z4, all models have the same pattern. I’m not holding much hope for an after market one, but fingers crossed anyway.

Not a fan of the new grill pattern as well. Wish they kept vertical stripes.

There is a thread in German Z4 forums to get original vertical strip kidneys made for Z4.

Not a fan of the OEM grill, but will wait a bit to see if it matters in a couple of months. Thanks ToysArs for sharing the obviously photoshopped pics; I like the top pic best too & if I change, I'd like to find one like that.

A really classic style grill is the Weber Original Kettle Grill.

Oh wait, you're actually talking about grilles...

Sorry!

Looks good. Would buy either one if only one was available. Like the top one best.

that bar style looks good but I prefer the OEM one.....in Cerium. Maybe it's because I'm new to BMW's so I don't have a bias towards the older look. One thing I found strange is that apparently you can't get the black grills on your M40i's in the US? Since my car was black, I had to choose between the Cerium gray and the black (I really wanted the Cerium Gray wheels regardless) and I decided on the Cerium and I'm very happy with my decision though the Cerium parts certainly take more effort to look good all the time.

Please share - it doesn't seem to matter what I do to them, they are constantly covered in smears. Totally detract from the car's appearance IMHO.

I covered my Cerium parts with XPEL and they stay perfect.

I have given up on trying to keep them clean. I have black grilles in the trunk, once weather is nice for a couple of days, I’ll drop the car off at a local body shop and have them swap the grilles. And paint the mirror caps black.

Microfiber cloth, windex and a bit of patience works for me.
