Heads up to BMW corporate, just to let you know convertibles are prohibited from BMWCCA HPDE in my area. I could see that being similar in other areas of the US.

A BMW sports coupe would be ideal.

The more it looks like a Datsun 240z the better!!! The 240z was my very first car, can't believe Nissan has not gone retro with it yet

350z and 370z's are aweful, too big with truck tailgate handles on the doors :

Someone should 'shop regular mirrors on it (the kind that production BMWs get) so it's a bit more realistic. Other than that I like it!

I'd love to see a shooting brake rendition. Like a Ferrari FF. The unique factor would be off the charts.

I think you misunderstood me. Magna Steyr will need to convince BMW that a BMW version of the Coupe can be built with minimal investment in R&D, like how the coupe version of the E85 was built with almost zero R&D from BMW.

As we have all seen from the spy shots and concept unveils, the Supra and the Z4, although they share platform and likely engine choices, don't exactly share the same body panels. So even though a coupe version of the platform exist, it doesn't necessarily mean that the coupe can be sold as a BMW as it's current iteration. There'll still need to be a coupe version built, perhaps, using the Toyota Coupes A, B, C pillar, roof, and hatch. Or a new roof and hatch for the BMW roadster ala the E85/E86 siblings.

I'm a little worried that BMW's agreement with Toyota involves Toyota being the sole manufacturer of coupes and BMW with convertibles on this platform.

With that said, even if z4 remains a convertible, it should still be a blast to drive. No one ever complains about the 718 boxster being a flimsy ride or outright inferior to the cayman.

Z4 coupe would be my choice given the two. Although I'd love to own a Z4 convertible someday.

I bought a Z4M coupe in 2007. While I didn't get $10K in trunk money, it was sig below MSRP which doesn't happen often for M cars in Tucson (only one dealer in town). The coupe version looks great and I would LOVE to see another Z4M coupe. Problem is, I am not going to sell my E86 Z4M coupe and I am not going to sell my E39 M5, we need an SUV and I need a DD. So even though I want BMW to produce the damn thing, I (presumably the target market) wouldn't buy one. And don't even get me going if a new Z4M coupe is produced but not offered with a manual. /rant

I ordered my e86 M in 2006, got it after 5 months, Jan 2007. Still have it.

I've bought five other bimmers after that, currently own 4. Obviously would buy a new one without being price sensitive even though cars in Greece are seriously expensive. I would assume there are there are a few thousand of devotees in the US, let alone the rest of the world.

Had it not been for the e86, I would have probably never bought a BMW.

Can't imagine BMW factors in people like us in any business models of theirs.

I think that this type of car is value accretive to the brand far beyond sales figures suggest.

What we need is an AMG GT rival.

Agreed. There are more margins and potential buyers at a higher segment where the AMG GT and 911 live. I for one would love to see BMW genuinely have a crack at showing them who is boss. I doubt they will do it, but I can't hurt to wish.
