M Performance Brake Upgrade

I'm interested in / investigating upgrading my discs, rotors and shields to Blue M Performance brakes; front and rear. I believe I have the correct M suspension options, just not the M brake components.
Anyone done or know of this retro fit? What issues did you experience? Does the dealership need to recalibrate the computer?
Any and all comments welcomed.

I don’t think you can get the M suspension without the brakes. Both are standard on the M40i, and part of the dynamic handling package on the 30i.

Thanks for your input….
I have the the M Suspension, but not the “Adaptive” driving mode which I have determined is required for dynamic handling and the M Performance brake package.
Knowing this, I want find out what specific parts will be required to add the M Performance brakes and any issues in doing so.

Ahh, ok. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I’ll let someone else chime in with more knowledge than me, but I think you’d just need the rotors and pads.

I’m also interested in this. I think slotted and/or rotors would look good (based on there is so much open space in the wheels). I’m happy with the performance for casual driving, but am also interested in what it takes for an upgrade.

You have a M Sport suspension but not the M Sport Adaptive suspension that uses entirely different dampers (shocks).

I've not performed the upgrade but, at the very least you'll need the calipers (housing and carrier), rotors, and pads in addition to wear sensors, brake pad paste, and front protection plates. Pads, sensors, and paste are all included in the "repair kit". I believe the brake booster may also be different, enough to matter I don't know (M brakes may need more boost). The brake pipes (tubing) appear to be the same but I can't be certain. There is probably additional miscellaneous hardware you'll need.

The G1, G20, G21, G30, and G31 models also use the same calipers so you may want to search those forums for someone who has performed the upgrade.

The following link will give you an idea of some of the parts differences:

The suspension shouldn't have anything to do with the brake upgrade. (Correct me if I'm missing something.)

Are you looking to buy the Z4 M40i brakes? If so, I'd check if the master cylinder is the same between the 30i and the M40i before anything. RealOEM should have the part numbers.

Thank you for your thorough response. The information is very helpful. I had not considered the booster may be different.

Thank for responding and the parts listing source…very helpful.
Yes….I WAS looking to buy the M40i brakes. However, what I can tell from RealOEM, the master cylinder is the same, but the booster is different. That stops my interest in upgrading my brakes.
The RealOEM site only goes up to 12/2019 production. I doubt if 2020 through 2022 is any different.

Yeah. I think full brake upgrades are really risky unless there's an OEM bolt-on solution (that doesn't involve changing the booster or master cylinder) or an aftermarket solution from a reputable vendor like StopTech or Brembo.

If anything, you could look for drilled or slotted rotors if you wanted something a little sportier looking.
