Angry Access to the behind the seat storage... bummed

So I assumed that the seats would fold forward to get to the space behind them. There is a decent amount of room there and I had planned on putting my briefcase/backpack behind the seat on the way home from work.

Unless I'm stupid I can't find a way to do this, so I can't get anything back there.

Very disappointed. I have to either walk clear around to passenger side or risk scratching seats and interior by sitting down and lifting things over the passenger seat onto the floor.

use the buttons on the side to adjust the seat?

You can maybe store it as a fixed position and then move it back and forward by holding the buttons 1 and 2 in the door?

If you move the passenger seat forward, you can definitely fit a briefcase behind it. A backpack may be a different story depending on how large it is and how much you put into it.

What's in your trunk that is taking up all the room?

I put mine in the trunk. Just use a small Rok strap (upscale bungy for motorcycles) to hold it in place. Easy, no risk of damage and you don't have to worry about sticky fingers if you stop on the way home with your top down.

I don't have a need for a briefcase and when I use a backpack it gets stored in the trunk.

Currently I store my Sunshade behind the passenger's seat.

Yah, that takes WAY too long. I assumed there was the little black lever that allows it instantly to manually fold forward like on my 4 series.

Just got mine yesterday and put it there as well.

Looks like I'm going to have to get used to opening the trunk! I just hate things that add extra steps and time and my "routine" has been for many many years to fold the front seat forward and drop my stuff in the back behind the drivers seat so it's in my muscle memory.

It could be worse, you could have an Audi R8.

Further problems - my keys are always in the backpack and I think trunk is too far away for key to work.

So glad I got the wireless charger and phone that works as a key!

When you memorize a seat's position and then press one of the buttons it only takes a few seconds to assume the new position. Are you really that impatient?

Well to be honest I haven’t actually tried that.

But probably yes.

Patience is not in my wheelhouse. But I’ll give it a try - thanks for the suggestion! Do you think the seat motor is durable enough to do this every time I get into the car?

It should be, and as long as you’re under warranty, it is covered.

you can also put it on the floor in front of the seat, if theres no passenger, that should save you a few miliseconds compared to the 4 series
if its a laptop and you lay it flat it probably won't move around

and you can open the trunk with the key from a distance, then you can chuck in the briefcase while you walk past the car and close the trunklid :-)

other than that i'm out of suggestions.
I think you'll need a car with a backseat, if you want front seats with a lever

Can you just put it in front of the seat on the floor? Or do you have a passenger? I assume it doesn’t fit in the netting behind the seat?

In order to put it on the floor, I either have to walk around to the passenger door and open it, or lift it across the center console and risk scratching the seat or the console as I place it on the floor. Neither is ideal.

And I did try the seat thing tonight – absolutely no way I have the patience to wait that long.

We all have our own priorities and pet peeves. Perhaps an M440i xDrive convertible would be more to your liking. Roadsters have compromises that some can live with, some can't.

Hmm, what is this phone that works as a key, thing? I will have wireless charging when mine arrives, but I didn’t know anything about being able to use my phone as a key.

Can you explain how it works?

It’s called the BMW digital key. Once you get your car you can download the MyBMW app and it will guide you through setting it up. You can use your phone to unlock/lock doors and start the car.
