Does anyone have a ski rack for their G29 Z4?

Hello!

I have a 2024 Z4 and I'd love to get some kind of ski rack for the trunklid.

I've seen the Seesucker stuff but I wanted to see if anyone had any good links/imagery of a ski rack setup on their G29

Use pasthrough, leave trunk lid partially open?

I think the idea is to look sexy as well as actually carry the skis 😜

I haven’t seen snow skis on a Z4, but about 10 years ago in a different life time, I did see a guy turn up to a triathlon meet in a Z4 with a racing bike on a bike rack. I thought at the time, I’d love to own one of those cars.

Now I have one, but it’s about 5 years too late for me to think of slapping on a bike rack and using it to go do a triathlon.

Well I technically need to fit a snowboard, which doesn't fit through the small ski-only passthrough, but most people ski, so went with the more common request.

Interesting, we usually just leave the skis on the boat.

Some snow skiers don't have boats to leave them on.

Just put the top down and lay them on the tray behind the seats. You're going to be out in the cold anyway, if you are snowboarding.

You can always ask people at your dealer if they have a recommendation, they might have an answer.

There could be a very good reason ski racks are not developed for the Z4. This isn’t really an ideal vehicle to drive into snowy mountains. lol

It really depends on the road conditions, the weather forecast, skills of the driver and the level of risk they are prepared to take driving in a mountainous area that time of year.

The primary reason there are such few accessories of any kind for the G29 is low production numbers, difficulty in making a profit unless the accessory also fits other models.

Unless there has been recent snowfall, many roads leading to ski resorts are clear and easily accessible. Current road conditions and weather forecasts are easy to find. Desire to take a Z4 for a weekend ski trip isn't unreasonable.

If anyone made a luggage rack for the Z4, it would probably be easy to find or create a ski adapter but convertible luggage racks aren't a popular accessory these days and, with the spacious trunk of our Z4, the need for a luggage rack is quite rare. I still have a luggage rack for a NC Miata collecting dust in my basement, tried selling it dirt cheap and had no takers.

The best option I've found is to look at a trunk mount bike rack (or a hitch mount if you want to go thru the trouble of installing a receiver). Thule makes a ski/snowboard vertical rack (Thule Tram) that hangs on the bike rack.

Such a thing even exists.

The one review from some guy named Charlie sounds like it was written by a Chatbot though. Who actually buys a G29 Z4 only if it can tow a small fishing boat?

Probably fine for bikes and ski racks.

I think the major issue is that you are trying to put a square peg in a round hole. It doesn't seem a g29 suits what want to use for

Coincidentally I ran across this on Bimmerpost today. Both of the cars are 2WD. The GT4 has a rack on the back but I didn’t get a very good look.

Ski bag

Personally I try to avoid ski racks as they are noisy at high speeds.
Last weekend I took my M40i for a skiing trip, using the load-thru hole and a ski bag.
It swallows 1 pair of skis, not 2 unfortunately.
