Color choices fur handschalter

Several great options for the upcoming manual transmission Z4 I had to stop in the dealership today to take a few color sample off the wall to see them in the full sun we had today. This is going to be a tough decision!!

This is where I need a bigger check book and a much bigger garage. I currently have a EB II F33 with the B58 that is a favorite color of mine. Only second to SMB in my book so I’m loving the Portimao, but I’m tempted to go red or even the Thundernight purple. If I keep the F33 (wife and kids love that thing) I might need a different color to mix it up. Seems to my eye that the SF red has a lot of orange in it. What do you SF owners think? It also seems to have less metallic flakes in the paint. Then there is the purple which is a fun option, just not sure how that would age for me.

Fun “issues” to have.

For me thundernight is still like the color I will go with when I order the manual but portimao a close second.

I'd go with the red, but my S2000 was in NFR (New Formula Red). Then I had my eyes on Portimao Blue, but I saw too many blue Z4 on this forum. So I mixed these two and went with Thundernight.

Maybe it’s me but I always prefer looking at the colors on actual cars and not the paint chips at a dealer’s display. 😉

I couldn’t agree more, but these cars and colors are hens teeth man.

You can look at some of them in different models. Usually translates fairly well.

I don’t see any orange in the SF but agree it seems to have less metallic. I love the Thundernight but fear I would grow weary of it.

I would have actually preferred a brighter color, but went with the boldest possible: Thundernight.

FWIW, it is a muted purple that doesn't shout. It leans towards a classier, dare I say "classic", purple. In my garage and mind, it will age well.

FYI, the red color sample in your post is labeled Toronto Red and not SFR.

IIRC, SFR is only available on the Z4. However Portimao Blue has been shipped on several different BMW's and TN has definitely been produced on the M240i as I have seen one at my dealer.

Same dilemma here.
Portimao or san Remo.

Haven’t seen either of them in real life.
San Remo seems a better fit with the wheels and roof, but I fear it could look to black for me.0

Oh man! I goofed that one up. Not even the same country let alone color!!! Back to the show room. It’s amazing what sleep deprivation does to the mind. .

This could be really good news as I thought the red I looked at was too heavy on the orange side.

See if your dealer has any used Z4 inventory in SFR. You need to see the color on a car. 😉

We did find an M240i in Thundernight about a year ago before we ordered our Z4. Been real happy with it. We get lots of compliments on the car and at least half are about how much they like the color.

Excellent choice. That’s what I’m dealing with now. I have blue and am leaning towards a switch.

Indeed. They have a TN 2series parked out front so I got a good look at the color in natural light. Looks amazing and such a fun color for a fun car.

I love thundernight but since my wife is “letting” me get this as an extra car I’m going with her favorite black and then I’m going to put xpel stealth on it. Thundernight in stealth would be cool too.

Is there a particular interior color you're drawn to? For example, I don't think Magma Red looks good with any of these three colors, but Ivory White would work with any of them.

IMHO, cognac works with them.

I don’t think SFR has much orange in it. Below is a link to a post with some decent pictures right after I got mine. I will agree there’s not much metallic flake in it. Only really notice it in very bright sunlight.

https://g29.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2015260

Edit: I see someone posted this as well, but that sample is Toronto Red, which does have more orange in it than SFR. I’ve parked next to a Toronto Red M3 before. You can definitely see the difference.
