BMW UDE in ATL - Z4 Was the Prom Queen

So, I went to the BMW UDE this weekend down at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This was maybe the 4th or 5th time I've done this event.

It was decently fun and FREE, but one thing really jumped out at me...

Of the dozen or so vehicles (i4 M50, 4 series, 7 series, X7, i7, X3, X5, X1) that were there for the unsupervised test drives portion of the event, there was little to no wait list (0 to 2 people) for any of the cars/SUVs, except 1.

Yep, that 1 was a TNM Z4 M40. And, wait for it....the queue was 14 people long. It may not be a 'real' M, but it sure draws a crowd!

I find it interesting that BMW was really pushing it's EVs at this event, but the car that drew the crowd was an 'old school' ICE roadster. Love it...

Maybe someone at BMW should take notes as roadsters are still very desirable!

Awesome that you had a chance to do this. I also did an M Town Tour recently and had the chance to do an i4 M50i, M3 Comp and XM. Did it TWO days, so I got to drive each of these twice and it was one hell of an experience.

Glad to hear that the roadster still sits well with the people!

I've done it 3 times and I'm waiting for registration to open for the one scheduled next month.

Last time, I didn't have any wait for the street drive. I'd driven the Z4, so I opted for the M850i convertible. It's a beast. A big beast, but that V8 sounds wonderful. A fun drive but I'm very happy with the Z4.

My strategy at these is to sign up for the second group of the day and show up about the time the first group starts. Not a lot of extra people hanging around so the wait for the street drives is pretty short. I usually can get in 2 drives before the autocross.

I did a UDE in San Antonio in 2021 where I got to autocross the M440i and drive the M850i as well. That was alot of good fun.

My wife and I took delivery of our Z4 M40i at the Performance center. We did the driving events during the morning. After we introduced ourselves and what car we were picking up, one of the instructors came over to me during a break and said that of all the cars they had, the instructors thought the Z4 M40i was the most fun to drive. I assumed he was just being a good ambassador for BMW, but we sure had a lot of fun pushing their Z4 M40i.

Awesome. It really is an underrated car. I get compliments everywhere I go. Glad you were able to go and enjoy this event!
