Roof stitching fraying

Hi Guys,

Just noticed the stitching is starting to fray right at the fold of the roof, I've had the car since April 2019 and have not been lowering/raising the roof that much here in rainy Ireland.

Has any else experienced this and should I contact my dealer asap?

I would go to the dealer. Personally have had BMW soft tops since 2004. Longest held was the 2004 330CI ZHP sold in 2013 & replaced with a 135is.. My roof looked better than yours the day I sold it.

Comparison, I live in the sunny south so the roof goes down at least 280 days a year. Also the car lived outdoors its whole life with me.

Besides the 2020 Z4 current oldest soft top is the 2013 135is. No visible wear on the top. Same conditions as the 330.

That said with at least 280 top down days it does snow on occasion

Ya I've emailed the dealer now and waiting on a reply. Full lockdown here so don't know how long I will have to wait. Another angle:

Does it leak when it rains? Looks no good. I would file a complaint with BMW too!

Using an automated car wash with bristles?

Glad to hear you're getting a warranty repair. Lexus replaced my entire dash cover under warranty after 10 years of ownership due to material defects that caused it to crack. Glad to hear that BMW stands behind its' cars. Of course, two years is still within the 4-year warranty period so really not that surprising.

Here's hoping you get more sunny days of top down driving!

The roof on my 2012 135i is still great.
Granted it never goes out in the rain or snow.
And the top goes down in May and rarely goes back up until October except for a few exceptions.
Glad you got it replaced.
