My Connected App -- what goes away and when?
Hello all,
I got my Z4 last October. The car was bought in Nov 2021. I have maintenance until Nov 2024 and warranty until Nov 2025. What about the use of the app? I am not sure what is free vs what is paid for. When do these features run out and what do I lose? The things I use that are cool are the remote start and climate preconditioning. Do I lose these things at some point? The rest are okay, but not worth paying for. How much does it cost to continue them? |

Anything that says “included with your vehical” means that feature does not expire until it’s no longer technically possible for BMW to offer it.

Others mentioned that you can check your subscription status by logging into your BMW account. I didn't renew mine right away, but I found that losing the GPS traffic, connected music (Spotify), and the ability to use the MyBMW app was a significant drawback. The $120 subscription fee was worth it for these features alone. I eventually renewed my subscription and have no regrets. I don't use them all the time, but I appreciate having them available when I need them.

I can see I have a lot of new options to learn about and choose from. I'm used to using my phone for all the things, my music being on a USB drive or the radio, and updates being done with a DVD for the maps or the dealer for firmware.
I can look through the BMW site for the details on the apps. As a rookie question, I'm guessing the car has something akin to a 5G phone in it? Is there a minimum monthly cost just to have it working at all, even if you hypothetically just had 1 app? I could see real-time traffic updates being nice. I think the hotspot would be entirely useless. Not sure about the rest, would bet I could take them or leave them. |

Thanks. I found it for my car. They expire 11/2025, so nothing to worry about for a while! It is really the autoupdating maps that seems like the one thing that I'd pay for in the future.
Anyone know about how much maintaining a subscription costs? I saw one post say $120. Is that per year or a one-time fee? |
