Yeah they post very often in instagram. I follow BMW and BMW Switzerland. Alot of car nuts are on Instagram cause that's where all the pictures are at.

I don't think "posting a photo to your IG account for your followers to see" is the same as paid advertising.

Posts on their official social media platforms is exactly that.. Advertising. It's getting their product out there.

Advertising can be as simple as having a logo somewhere in a video game to pictures of products or a small blurb of services provided. Not sure what you mean by that.

Instagram, Facebook and Twitter all have massive followings. It's a great place for low cost advertising. Here's a picture of a badass car. Want to know more? Click this link. or.. "Build yours today!"

Effective and cheap.

Effective and cheap.
Sure, my point is that they aren't paying money to reach a new audience for this car. They are just connecting with their existing enthusiasts on a free channel.

I specifically said "paid advertising", as in, I'm paying $1 an impression to get the eyeballs of X demographic.

That is surprising and odd given that the owner demographic seems more skewed to Gen-X and Boomers than Millenials and Gen Z.

Not the place I’d have picked. I’m not much of an insta user myself and have never seen a Z4 ad or other content there unless I got to it from a link posted elsewhere like here.

Interesting, I don't recall seeing a single ad for it even though it was definitely in my search/browsing history and I use IG almost daily.

I’m (66) on Instagram regularly and have never seen a Z4 ad on it, probably because I have all ad personalization turned off so they generally don’t have a clue that I’m a car buff.

Not saying they don't put the Z4 out there in other places, but between BMW and BMW Switzerland I comment every time they show off the Z4 or the Z4 Touring (the hard top concept)

I am a Gen X and I partake in Twitter, Facebook and Instagram... Guess it depends. But I'm also somewhat tech savvy and in the IT/Cybersecurity industry.

Supra sales down 46% to 2,652. But that’s still 41% more than the z4. Unicorns! And the 2 series was flat, so a bit surprised by that given the M2 drama.

The interesting thing is that European sales of the Z4 were 3x US sales. That's been pretty consistent over the years. So more advertising in Europe is not totally unexpected.

Percentages are a very, very slippery slope on the way to misleading the fans.

They only sold 316 more cars than they did in 2022. There were 306 selling days in 2023 which means just over one more car per day was sold.

Another way to look at it if they sold one car in 2022 & two cars in 2023 that would be a 100% increase in sales. Quick break out the balloons, confetti & Champaign.

A trend has to start somewhere though, right?
But at the end of the day, the Z4 will never be a huge volume seller quite simply because of the very characteristics that make it an attractive car to us.

In other words, the cars very strengths, are what limits its sales potential. Not a problem for me 😁

The Fighting Illini thank you, bubbly fans not so much.

I would argue it is still a significant bump. The question is how much the supply chain issues affected '22 sales.

2022 was hit hard & 2023 was the beginning of the rebound. This was posted by major news outlet.

After enjoying a strong rebound in sales in 2023, the auto industry appears headed for slower growth this year as consumers struggle with elevated interest rates and high prices for new cars and light trucks.

Edmunds, a market researcher, expects the industry to sell 15.7 million vehicles this year. That would amount to a modest increase from the 15.5 million sold last year, when sales jumped 12 percent.

This would suggest the Z4 did not see any real increase above the rebound in actual number of units even though the percentages increase is good. Peak year was 2019 with 2,941 cars sold. 2021 was #2 with 2,412. Market bottomed out in 2022 with 1,567.

I believe the MT is a potential boost in sales, question is, how much new sales VS how much of a switch from AT's that would have been bought anyway?

That is the real question. Based on the trends for the previous generation Z4s as well as the G29, the expected market for this year would be 1500-1800 cars. So if sales go much higher than that, it's likely to because of the MT.

I used to do statistical analysis and forecasting for Koehring Corporation service parts division. Z4 sales since 2019 would not be enough to suggest any sales trend. The 2023 increase in sales are most likely the result of the upgrades. Based on what I see, I would forecast lower sales for 2024. But, it just isn't a popular model, so any predictions are meaningless. Kind of like forecasting sales of Koehring backhoe buckets that sell 8 a year.

Ummm, I'm sure the BMW knows how many of each car they made. Kinda need that information to release accurate financials.
