I'll bring the average down a little too, got my G29 as a 50th birthday present to myself. It was technically "born" a week before my 50th birthday too.

I'm surprised at the GTI age on that list, most of the GTIs I see are 20somethings. My first BMW was my 3 series at 40, X5 at 48 then the Z4.

I bought my G29 last year when I was 25, so I’m bringing down the average here! The car is the perfect blend of comfortable cruiser and sports car for me!

UK at 25. Oof, even for a 30i the insurance must be outrageous!

I could have never contemplate such a purchase way back when...

Nice that you are able to acquire such a thing at an early age (although you may not feel like it, just wait 'til your age has doubled )

That’s one of the excellent things about the 4-cylinder Z4 - the insurance is crazy cheap. I pay £475 per year.

I would not have guessed that I'd be at the median age of Z4 owners. On the bright side is that half of all owners are older than me!

Was 79 when I bought the 2020 Z4. Was 21 when I bought my first new car & fourth car overall 1962 409/409 Impala coupe 4MT. Was all down the performance car hole after that.

I feel bad that at 58 yo, I’m bringing down the average. I’ve only seen a handful of G29’s floating around in central New Jersey. My impression has been that the other owners were around my age or slight younger.

My neighbor across the street has a well maintained silver E85, and another neighbor around the block has beautiful white Z3. The Z3 owner may bump up the average age, but he’s definitely young at heart.

The original article didn't mention them, but I just read an article that said the average age of a Rolls-Royce buyer is 42.

I was initially surprised by that, but thinking about it, it's not unreasonable. The sales volume was just over 6k last year, so it wouldn't take a huge volume of young buyers to shift the mean. And from personal observation (I used to work down the street from the RR dealer) they appear to be quite popular among pro athletes, especially the NBA. I also suspect that in places like the middle east, there is a fair number of younger buyers.

I'm guessing that if I ever meet another G29 owner, he will be around my age. I have not seen one yet, despite going to numerous car meets; even those dedicated to BMWs. I did meet two early 2000 Z3 owners... they were around my age.

The cars and coffee around here, I'm always the only Z4. Rarely do I get another Z4 there from another generation. Two times people from this forum were able to show up which was AWESOME. I think one was younger than me (but .. IIRC he was asian, asians always look younger than white dudes) and the other guy was about my age.

I'm 44.

53, not an owner but incredibly interested with the info on the upcoming manual.

I wonder if the demographics will shift a bit with the new manual? Not a ton of course, but maybe a little?

Just a gut feeling but think the MT will play better to the older farts than the young guys. Most of us I think were MT drivers at some time in our lives. I taught myself how to drive an MT around 19 when I bought a Triumph TR-3A.

Worked it out in the dealers back lot then drove it home. Think it was pretty easy as I was already driving for about 3 years so I only needed to concentrate on the learning the clutch engagement.

Had the same thought about MT Z4 uptake.

The younger guys, at least some of them, are already in the M3/M4 threads demanding everyone acknowledge that the AWD AT cars are objectively better than the MT cars because performance metrics are the altar at which every M buyer must worship.

I honestly don't understand the enthusiasm of a stick shift. It's alot to think about lol.

Maybe it's because of my condition... I don't want one flare up to render an inability to drive.

I know how to, I just don't like it.

I’m actually quite curious how the whole ‘new to me’ rev matching that modern MT vehicles have will be influencing my enjoyment/memory of driving a MT. I know it can be turned off, but I think I may like it based on some vids I’ve seen of it in action on other cars.

I found/feel I’m a better driver in a MT, generally, as I need to stay more focused & aware, in lieu of just ‘point and shoot from A to B’. Same as when I’m on a MC, there’s just no choice but to become more engaged in your surroundings.
