Question Anyone into RC cars here?

Thinking about getting back into the RC world. I'd be looking for a dune buggy type RC car that can go on & off road. Most of the off road would be grass. Looking for something fast, no slow $40 stuff from Target.

Just for recreation, not trying to do competitions.

What are the go to cars that fit the bill and don't cost a fortune? I'm not trying to dump a bunch of money into this. I do that with my real cars

Traxxas if you want a good ready to run. Several 60+mph options.
Losi, team associated, axial, are all good too.

Sailboats, yes. Newport 12 Meter and DF95.

Cars in the 1970s, gliders and power planes too. Good old days of heavy radios, large servos, etc. Stuff today is amazing!

Traxxas Rustler 4x4. You can get the basic electric or go VXL. Easy to drive. Traxxas Slash 4x4 easy to drive as shell, better for short course, smaller areas.

Traxxas bandit is fun as well, but only 2WD.

Twenty years ago I was into it. I had a HPI Honda Integra Type R gas powered and another ( Viper ) battery car. It was fun but also very aggravating getting the gas one to fire up.

No matter what you decide on it is good to consider replacement parts. Traxxas and HPI come to mind as well supported. On the higher side Team Assoiciated is doing a model change on their 1/8th vehicles and There are some good deal to be had.

My son and I race team associated RC-10s. I'm sure they've been surpassed by some of the other brands now, but they're fast and super fun. I still have my old Kyosho turbo Ultima with the carbon kit. That thing was the shit back in the day.

Tower Hobbies is still the place to get your stuff.

Also, if you're good with used stuff keep an eye on FB marketplace and cl. Kids grow up and Dad's sell off full kits with lots of spare parts for good prices. That's where I got one of my RC-10s

Both the Rustler 4x4 and Slash 4x4 were fine on grass when I had them.

I have my Tamiya Hotshot with Twister motor, that is almost 40 years old. Got it at my mom’s house and it still runs great. Surprisingly easy to find parts.
