Wait does the Z4 not have HUD?

I just kinda assumed since all my other BMWs for last 10 years have had it, but I don't see it on the specs list.

2022+ model (would be ordering new)

Due to shortages, the HUD may have been one of those things removed. My 2021 does have a HUD.

I believe that you are correct. Most likely with the chip shortage they decided to only offer HUD on the more expensive M40i model.

Once I had a HUD I realized how much it reduces eye strain by keeping your eyes on the road instead of having to refocus on the speedometer. At this point it’s on my must have list of options. Of course on the BMW you get all the other bonus data like phone numbers, music selection, directions, etc which makes it that much better.

The only thing missing from the HUD on the M40i are the rpm numbers on the tachometer when you are in Sport mode like they appear on the M cars.

you don't get the numbers but you can change it so it displays little blocks green to red so you can see in what RPM range you are. (or it used to be there, i don't currently have it enabled, and haven't looked in a long time if it's still there)

Funny thing is... Since I wear polarized sunglasses.... I've gotten so accustomed to not being able to see the HUD, that I rarely even look there even at night or in days I don't need my sunglasses. I do have my tac on the HUD though.

How do you change the colors without using 3rd party programming?

you can not change the color, the HUD does it for you, if you go high rpm it becomes red i think (I will have to look in the menu's to find the setting, I haven't had it in that mode since i test-drove the car 3 years ago )

I will check next time i drive the car

Do you have to be in Sport or Sport Plus mode to see the colors?

On my HUD, doesn't matter what mode, it's always white and then red. Yes when it's high RPMs, there is a red bar that shows up above. This has happened me to me once or twice because the 30i exhaust gets drowned out so easily when I'm at Cars and Coffee. I sometimes forget to shift cause I can't hear it very well. Because of my polarized sunglasses I don't see the HUD very well.

I am probably the only person that wants to swap out my exhaust to get a more pronounced sound rather than an HP increase.

*edit*

I specifically purchased non-polarized prescription sunglasses for the car for the HUD and it works out well.

I wear contact lenses that are corrected for mono vision so the lens in one eye is for distance and the other lens is for reading. I had my local optical store make me sunglasses with a prescription for the left eye so I have 20/20 distance viewing from both eyes while driving.

They also have non-polarized "Transitions" brand lenses that darken in bright sunlight and are clear at night so I have the best of both worlds and can really see the road and the HUD. They also protect my eyes from the wind when the top is down.

Hard for me to find good sunglasses. After I got PRK surgery I have high sensitivity to light. Finding a set that fits my fat head and is dark enough, and is the style I like is rarer than our car. :P

Ok looks like the hud is available with premium package on the msport model. So I’m back in the hunt. Thanks everyone. I’ve gone from the i4 (adjustable bolsters not available) to m4 (not gonna pay 10k adm) to the z4 and thought that was going to fail as well with no hud.

Both driver seats and passenger seats have adjustable lumbar and side bolster adjustments on 2022 models, yes??
