Thanks ynguldyn for the info.

It'd make perfect sense for the extraordinarily long lifespan of the G20/G80 platform.

The technology upgrade the G80 should carry over from the series car LCI, so it needs to be something dedicated to the M.

Can we expect an TU to the S58 engine?
My guess is, no. S58T is as high as it'll get - UNTIL - M2?/M3CS come out

The S58 Ultimate is in the league of CS/CSL
Not expecting more hp from the TU, but emission related upgrade is possible, if the S58 is to hold on until 2027.

Even to add a mild hybrid (48v) is not a wild idea given what they're doing to the V8 right now and what was done to the B58 upon which the S58 is based.

True on both counts

They already use the mild hybrid with the B58 so it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility to have the S58 come with one also

Especially considering the gen 2 48v mild hybrid launched on the 7/x7 is now transmission mounted. I would guess simpler to integrate, probably mostly software

If emissions laws are going to be tighter down the road it's probably good to get the S58 now

Don't be a troll. BMW decided to extend the G8x lifespan by a couple of years (which, actually, points to the opposite of a failure), and LCIs are a common tactic to keep products fresh after several years on the market.

All that the life extension tells us is that ICE cars are no longer worthy of deep R&D needed for brand new models.

I have a G80 xDrive on order (entering production week 38). I can have a belief the LCI will involve front-end changes without being a troll.

Are there any police departments or any other emergency services dependents anywhere in the world using EVs user?

Does anyone here know of any cases?

Saying / believing / hoping that an LCI may involve exterior changes is normal. Suggesting that BMW is doing it because the product is a "failure" is trollish.

Regardless, I'm glad you're looking past the cover of the book and ordering one. It's a simply brilliant car. And, when I parked it at the gym today and looked back, it actually struck me as a good looking car. Not that I expect everyone to agree — I honestly don't care — but I'm thrilled with it. I'm sure you will be as well; cheers.

Plenty.

But the religious wars about ICE vs EV belong elsewhere.

You misunderstood my purpose for asking, I genuinely wanted to know if there were any? My son had to accompany his mother to hospital with an ambulance and they had to wait for well over an hour before a bed became available in the ER.

In Australia, at the moment, we have a chronic shortage of hospital beds. There have been cases where an ambulance has been "ramped" for eight hours - this means the patient remains in the ambulance as if it were a hospital bed for that entire period. Whilst this happens, the ambulance engine often has to run to facilitate air-conditioning and keep the instruments in operation continually.

I wondered if there are EVs capable of supporting such situations.

Equally we have fierce bushfires in Australia (as do you of late). Firefighting trucks run for hours at a time - are there EV vehicles presently capable of providing similar endurance.

With police, it's interesting because there's a distinct advantage with acceleration in an EV. As such, it would make sense for plenty of demand for EV police cars.

I was asking a genuine question, though I apologise if I gave you the opposite impression. Also, I asked it here because I didn't want to join the war you mentioned. Here, you, very kindly, offer information on both types and I though it would be a neutral ground for the question to be asked.

No trolling was intended.

There are multiple police departments using Teslas. But there are no platforms capable of ambulance duty yet. Maybe once Rivian builds enough delivery vans for Amazon, they could turn their attention to that.

This is offtopic, let's wrap it up now.

I guess if you had some info about the 4 motor electric M model, you would've included that. Intrigued to see what M will deliver.
