Every hp that takes it closer to the Stelvio will be highly appreciated by this audience.

What? The M8 will be an S63 Coupe competitor, not a mid engined supercar.
Dammit I take my comment back. I must've prematurely ejaculated

Hey BMW we need an r8 competitor. STILL.

+1

F97/F98 needs to be as close to 500hp as possible IMO. There is a lot of competition in this class...not that hp is everything but I look at the X5M/X6M vs the competition as a good enough reason. Why not? I don't think it would take sales away from either the M3/M4 or the X5M/X6M and all 4 of those vehicles would still perform better so it would not mess with hierarchy. Time for BMW to bring it, and after waiting 2 more years it better.

I was really hoping that G20 3er was going on sale late this year. I suppose that I'll have to buy the last model year F30.

Not to mention the GLC63 pair coming in a year or less which will also get over 500hp in S form. There is also an RS Q5 coming soon (was rumored to bow in Geneva but didn't) but that'll probably (99%) get the 450hp 2.9L V6.

BMW is likely to come in somewhere in the middle. I don't think they are going for best in class power because they know they aren't going to be able to win that arms race as long as Mercedes has the M177 4.0L V8 in service. I suspect they are in the final generation of V8 engines in their "C family" of products (the new I6 will take over from there, I suspect), so once that ends and everyone is playing with the same calibre firepower, maybe BMW will have a go. At that point though, 500hp will be the price of entry anyway. Then, the new race will be to 200hp/L in the 3.0L six cylinder engine class. Maybe it takes hybridized engines (like that new Mercedes M256 I6, speak of the devil), or maybe McLaren can help (since they are quickly approaching 200hp/L themselves).

I did not take into consideration I6 vs V8 but now that we know the F97 is to get an S58, what real world numbers could we expect? The S58 with 450-460hp is not a bad thing but would love to see real world numbers close to 500hp...maybe 480-490hp. That would put the X3M in the mix vs the competition.

I think it will become the new ZCP. Why would BMW make a limited version when they can make an extra 10,000 on each car. Interesting to see how many ZCPs they have sold already. Close to 70% of all new orders at $5,000 above regular M price.
If they can get out the CS at Less than $15,000 above civic M3/M4 it will be a winner with all those options included (gts hood, carbon brakes, upgraded springs and sway bars, specific M performance aero, etc)

The most specific I could guess at this point is >=450hp but <500hp.

Agree it won't be limited, but it isn't going to completely replace ZCP either. They need to keep the $5k package price to maintain the high sell-thru rate. The CS will be there for those who few (maybe 10%, as a guess) want to go above and beyond that for an even more customized aftermarket look from the factory.

I'm hoping for 5 seats for the LCI version, but I guess not possible...

If i3S has the 120Ah battery I might consider swapping my 60Ah.

About the M2 competition do we have something new? Is it going to have a huge wing a la M4 GTS? Roll cage perhaps? Rear seat? Availability of a manual transmission?

Production starts 11/18, so figure press release and pics a couple months prior.

If it hasn't yet then I'm not sure it ever will. MY2018 for the F30 starts in July and that will be the final model year.

I am more curious about whether the G20 (and F40) *20i will move to a B38 3 cylinder. It seems they could tune it to 125hp/L in the same way that the *30i vehicles use a B48 with 125hp/L.

Speaking of the F40, if it were to arrive on the typical seven year model cycle, it would be launching next year too - just prior to the G20 in fact, just as the E87 did vs. the E90 and the F20 did vs. the F30. Yet, I don't recall seeing many (if any) mules yet, whereas the F20 mules have been around for years. And I don't think we have any dates listed for F20/F21 EOP. So will the F20 live on longer? And if so, how long until the F40 arrives?

I'm wondering about this too. Perhaps the F40 will launch after the G20, which could mean a 7,5 or even 8 year lifespan for the F20.
There are rumors about updates for the F20 this summer, which would make sense if it will live on another two years.

Oh, right, I never bothered giving SOP/EOP dates for RTW only models.

F4x is coming July 2019.

The kidney grilles are ever-so-slightly going through a metamorphosis. I suspect in a couple of years they will be very square shaped.

At the end, I don't mind if the new 1er will loose the RWD. This means that a lot of which now are driving the 1 series.....will be forced to buy the new 2 series, or maybe the new M2 :-D
