You are familiar with the platform from owning a Supra so you will feel right at home and appreciate the higher quality materials used.

I considered a Type-S before buying the Z4 but wanted this to be more useful (had a NC Miata) so trunk space played a factor. The Z4 is my Costco trip car of choice lol.
Type-S is one of my top beautiful cars on the road, if I had extra $$ it be in the garage as well.

I don't mind the lower dash being black like we have now. The door panels on and the center console on the 6MT are black while on the automatic they match the seat color.

Personally I don't like the appearance of the 6MT's interior as much, it looks barren and needs the extra pop of color like we have now.

Oh, odd. I just noticed that. Strange thing for them to change. Yeah, bummer. Not a deal breaker, but bummer.

The German configurator shows both an option for leather seats only (like in the top photo) and leather for both the seats, console, and door cards

Just picked up a M440i convertible. I sold my last Miata RF as I was having more difficulty getting in and out of it. The M440i convertible fits the bill as it has more power and comfort( which I value more and more as I get older).

I was also considering a Z4 while I was considering a convertible. But I was afraid that the Z4 will be as difficult to get in and out of. But I really missed the manual transmission.

Will have to see the new Z4 in person first. But it looks sharp!

Miata and Z4 seem similar to me from getting in and out. Use my left hand on door sill to assist.

I will have to see in person. My Miata was lowered by about 1".
I sure missed the lighter and more nimble handling of a roadster. Guess can't have it all!

When exiting the Z4 I usually use my right hand to push off the steering wheel and assist in my exit.

You will have fun driving the M440i convertible and unless you absolutely want a sexy roadster with a beautiful grill and are craving for a MT I recommend that you save your money and stay with what you have.

Did I say, sexy roadster with a beautiful grill and now available with a 6MT?

My Porsche Boxster was like lying on the ground. The Z4 should be like a pickup truck in comparison lol

You have a beautiful convertible but at some time in the future you may wish to test drive the new Z4 and crossover to our exclusive Unicorn club!

I felt like I was ‘dropping’ into the ND, (similar to my old C5 Z06….RIP), whereas the Z4 was an easier ‘lowered seat’ position. Similar for getting out, I felt as if I was at ground level on my backside & almost needed to start out on my knees to stand, not as drastic in the Z4.

Just the perspective I had, but may have been influenced by the timing, (as we literally went from the Mazda dealer straight to the BMW dealer). The ND also had much more of a crowded (in a good way) cockpit feel to it, while the Z4 felt less claustrophobic but still with everything in an easy reach. I felt ‘safer’ with the modest increased size of the Z too, living in the land of rolling-coal pickemup trucks, lol.

I'd definitely have liked the lower dash to match the seat colors, but I agree the current matching in the center console and door panels looks better. Fortunately it seems you can still order any of the previous interiors (including the current cognac) with the MT. It just won't have the black piping and the M stitching.

While we're at it, I wish the trim on the dashboard would also follow your selection instead of always being piano black.

Between the car and I, if there are any lookers I'm sure they aren't interested in me.

BMW going against the grain and creating a new manual offering - that’s a great move!

Same here, primarily to minimize wear on the seat bolsters.

It’s fantastic news BMW is offering the six speed manual on the Z4 m40i

I’m not sure why BMW forgot the ///M compound brakes…

You can get them on an X1 for fuk sakes

Great point. I put spacers on my Z4 and the rotors warped. Too soft for hard work

the spacers wouldn't cause that tho, just brakes that get hot and then cooled too quickly.
