Never Seen Snow?

Living in Florida I've always been able to advertise the cars I have privately sold as "never seen snow". My Z4 has been waiting "At The Port" for a week now and it has been snowing there the past few days. It looks like the cars are just parked outside under the elements as they await a ship. It also looks like they don't put plastic over the roof of the convertibles they ship. Hope the top can handle snow!

Anyone have any issues with their tops concerning weather? Snow is not a problem in sunny Florida but rain is. When it rains here it usually comes down in buckets. For those who have had their cars out in bad weather - are you staying dry?

Mine is garaged, but we go on 600 mike trips to see family and got into downpours more than once on highway with getting sprayed on by large trucks. Not an issue. Plus I go to a touch less car wash and they use a pressure hose at the beginning to get bugs etc off and has never been an issue.

I don't drive it in winter weather below about 45 degrees so can't say how well it would hold up. But given the first prototype testing we saw where from the Arctic circle, I'd say winter weather isn't huge issue for the car itself. Driving in it may of course be a different story.

It will be fine, they are designed for extreme conditions and tested in all sorts of weathers and temperatures. I wouldn’t have bought one if the roof was going to be an issue in UK. Drove in a thunderstorm in summer absolutely no issues.

I had a brand new Abarth 124 for 12 months with 2000miles on clock. Always kept it immaculate, covered in garage etc. Took it for first service and the gits parked it under a tree containing 2 pigeons. Looked like someone had thrown a bucket of popcorn over the soft top!

Yeah, I figured testing would put it through rougher conditions than I might encounter (well, we do have hurricanes down here). BMW had some issues with water intrusion with their mechanical convertible tops. Tough to get those to retract and then seal again correctly. The one-piece cloth tops shouldn't have that problem as long as the header and windows seal tightly.

Thanks for the reply.

I've heard of people baiting others' car roofs to attract the birds as a revenge deal. Hopefully in the UK you're a bit more civilized than we are in the States.

Thanks for the reply.

Lived in NJ then England before moving to NC & owned at least one convertible since 1960 up to & including the Z4.. Never had a weather issue with any of them.

The early top were very primitive compared to the Z4 so can't see any issues.

First convertible in NC was a 2004 330Ci ZHP car was sold in 2012 with the original top in perfect condition. Current oldest car in the 2013 135is Convertible, top is also excellent.

Yes it does snow in the sunny south we also get some serious Hurricanes.

4X4 truck has snow rated off road tires. Go to vehicle in the snow thats why its pointing downhill.

I can tell you mine had scratches on it so check it well. Just because it's new doesn't mean it won't have scratches...I got the dealer to pay to buff out.

Without getting the ceramic coating I wouldn't have known.

car will be fine. even though it was on snow it never driven in salt covered snow roads. That would be more of my concern than snow getting on top of it.

I've been caught in a rain shower a couple times; no issues nor did I expect any. ....as far as snow - my Z4 will never see it on my watch though that shouldn't hurt it either.

Water beads off top no problem. I hope its not frozen gray. That can be a problem. Daily Driver when i can. Not in snow or salted roads though. Cars been sitting for a week. Hate winter. Last 2 years no snow. Thank god for carport. Never should have made my garage living space. But its just a car!

Wow, that's horrible. My understanding is those scratches should have been taken care of at the VPC before the car was released to the dealer. I wonder if the dealer put them there.

I'll be getting my car at the Performance Delivery Center right across the street from the factory. Based on previous experience with a PCD any issues with the car are taken care of by the BMW Spartanburg factory experts as Spartanburg is the VPC for all PCD cars. My 2008 335i was damaged on-site during a hail storm. After visiting the VPC you could not tell where any of the dings were. It was restored as if straight out of the factory - just not the German factory.

Happy motoring!

It is just a car. My 3rd Z4. I lease them and beat them. But i do take care of the outside as i have no garage. Only reason i got the carport is because of the frozen gray paint. All my cars look pristine. Snow will not hurt your car. Don't worry. My A7 was buried in snow and now looks fine. I have to laugh at these Corvette owners (old men) that never drive them. And when it is a nice day they sit in a parking lot with the other jerkoffs. Also got caught in some bad rainstorms and had no problem with the top. Although my top is the optional one that looks like Denim. Good luck with the new car when you get it. What color combo?

I know whats its like to wait

I initially had an order in for a first edition frozen orange, but only to find out its not available in the US. Waited a year. Found a frozen gray on Showroom floor and fell in Love. Still Wanted the orange though.

My Z4 won't be a garage queen, that's for sure. I'm planning a cross-country trip - possibly in September for some mountain driving. I put quite a few miles on my 1996 Corvette before I sold it. I was a young man then - not so young now.

There is a book out there titled "All Corvettes Are Red" about the development of the C5 Vette. The title comes from a statement by the lead test driver about paint. He said "All Corvettes are red. The rest are mistakes.". I'm getting a San Francisco red Z4 with the Cognac interior. A beautiful combo and definitely NOT a mistake.

I like the frozen colors too but not the price tag or the unknowns of long-term maintenance. The frozen orange is gorgeous but it's only available in China I think.
