I wanted to too, I bought one, I don't love it. I shoot it well, I don't like the high bore axis and the top heavy feel that comes with it. I have large hands, and it still feels bulky (I am used to the 1911 to be fair). It is a good gun, but it only goes to the range for comparison purposes.

Yeah, I prefer a 229 over the 226. They each have their own feel.

Any of you guys have a desert eagle? Sorry if you've posted already, couldn't be arsed to go through all 60+ pages... love that hand cannon. Shot 10 rounds in Vegas and that was enough got me hooked though. I'm kind of jealous that you guys can own handguns as I'm a fan and I used to shoot here in the uk before the ban. But these days I'm pleased they are banned and feel bad for those over the pond who don't agree with the right to bear arms... each to their own of course

The D'gle is kind of a silly toy, I have absolutely no use for one, but I almost bought one last year, just because its stupid, and its interesting, being a gas operated handgun.

What do you mean by gas operated? Doesn't the recoil of the .50cal have enough in to eject and reload the next shell... Even I've got a gas powered co2 desert eagle

No seriously, why is this? Do other handguns operate in the same way?

If you are ever back and you want to go with something even more silly, find a place that rents the .500 S&W Magnum. It's even more powerful than the eagle you shot. Different cartridge, even though both are .50 in terms of size.

Jeeez. Just youtubed it... now that is a true hand-cannon! Is there a use for these in a sporting / competition way or is it just for pissing contests/ showing off and demos? Looks like it will break your wrist Is this what Dirty Harry used? If I lived in the US, it's the kind of thing I'd have to have in the cabinet...

Once you get to that caliber in a handgun you just want to have fun. Its so impractical its not even funny.

No, other handguns are not gas operated (no main stream ones that I can think of, not including ar/ak), gas systems are usually used with rifles. The Desert eagle has a rotating bolt (again rifle style) and uses gases from the barrel (through a port) rather then recoil from the round going off, it interesting and kinda cool.

I also have a S&W 500 mag, its a BEAST

.500 magnum is a beast but frew applications. The dirty harry 44 mag also has few real world applications. Too heavy and big and hard to do follow up shots. What you want in your home defense "cabinet" is a shotgun with low recoil 00 buck. Other things worth having include a full size pistol like a 1911, 10mm, 40, 9mm, an AR, AK, etc. I've got most of those but still default to the shotgun. Smaller, maneuverable, hard hitting, controlable, intimidating, pump, and infallibly reliable. 9 rounds in the pump, each hitting like ten 9mm pistol rounds. 4 more in the stock for fast reloads. Just making the pump noise will generally subdue most opponents. But if you're my neighbor listening to me take care of an intruder you'd probably hear blam, blam, stop or I'll shoot.

I've got a 9mm desert eagle, dubbed, the Baby Eagle.

I think it's been posted here before, but couldn't find it...

Legit question here - since I don't know you. Honestly, my wrist was killing me after 8 repeated shots, 1-2 second breaks between shots to bring the gun back on target (yes, it took that long, I'm sorry). Didn't even want to fire the remaining ones in the box (only two more), but turns out, my inherent cheapness trumped the pain of taking the last two, so I did it anyways.

Are you feeling it two after 8 in reasonably quick succession or is it just me? I feel like that gun would be capable of being a nice backup African gun - not sure what it couldn't take down to be honest. Maybe a Rhino.

It's likely just you. Canadians generally can't handle that much freedom in their hands.

Limp wrists up north. Its a wonder you can do a wrist shot. I'd stay away from the big 5 unless it was a last resort. Same with kodiac and griz. Stick to a .375 H&H or bigger for those.

If this was a first firearm purchase, some of this could make sense, not when you have a CCW, and multiple firearm purchases under your belt.
Sorry, I must have missed it. What CZ did you get? When I lived in Germany in the late 80s, I bought a new CZ-75 that I really liked. Very heavy. Never failed on me. The bluing started to come off in places due to just age and wear and tear, but got an offer for over 3x what I paid so ended up replacing it with a Taurus 40S&W and a 380 Bodyguard. Both good handguns too.

the way you hold the gun makes a huge difference, if you are not holding it correctly and letting your wrists absorb the recoil I would imagine it would be no fun to shoot.

It will sting the palm of my hand after a few rounds with full power loads (underwood hardcast for those who care) but it's not bad. That being said, it's not a gun that i take to the range and put a hundred rounds through, i don't think i've ever put more then 20 rounds through it at a time, ammo for the thing is spendy too i want to say it's $2 or $3 per shot, it's been a while since i bought ammo for it...but i need to soon one more trip to the range and i'll be out

There's a space between the extender and the gun and it ripped me up pretty good. The guy at the range said he's heard a lot of complaints about it and he sold me a rubber cover to go over a 15 round magazine. Feels MUCH better. My finger is still on fire.
