Retraction of windows before opening

The Z4 is my first convertible that does not retract the windows before opening the door, thus causing the door to open with some degree of resistance. Strangely it does work the same as any convertible when closing the door: the window closes for the last inch or so after the door is shut.

Do you have the same experience or is it just my Z4?

Funnily enough I'm also noticing a couple of strange things about the windows - see my other post from earlier today. In short, yes, mine is the same, you open the door and the top of the window just kind of gets yanked out from under the edge of the roof.

Thanks for your reply. Wondering if we're the only ones having this issue?

Same here.
My previous car a Porsche Boxster did not have this problem.
Can the lowered distance be adjusted electronically by a dealer?

Every Z4 I've seen and opened doors on had the usual BMW frameless window operation, they drop about 5mm as you pull the handle?

Correct. But - at least with my Z4 - this happens so slowly that the door is already opened by then!

not saying I like it this way but the window comes down for when you close it, not for opening.

Patience. Are you a bank robber making a quick getaway?

Mine does definitely move down about 5mm when the door is opened but it is quite slow, a lot slower than other cars I have had. It really should drop when you get hold of the handle prior to pulling the handle.
But then again the latest update was supposed to open the window halfway when I pressed they keyfob twice but that I’m not sure I can get that function to work every time.
Aha! As we are in a lockdown this beauty isn’t getting used much. The battery is very low stopping the keyfob function and the proximity lighting coming on. Back on charge, I think I will leave it on trickle for a while and switch the lights to off as they do use some power while left in auto mode.
