Some deets on the upcoming Boxster/Cayman, which should start deliveries in late 2024:
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a4...ayman-boxster/ Some personal guesses/predictions: - the EV will match or exceed previous gas models in terms of performance, especially acceleration. I think this includes the base model if it starts at the expected pricing and power levels - the EV has to in order to get existing and potential 718 owners interested - range will be in the same 350 mile range as EPA estimates for the current GTS with a 50/50 expressway/city driving profile. This probably explains the expected ~ 3600 lbs curb weight - subjective experience - because it’s a Porsche 718 it will probably be very, very good. If Porsche can’t figure this out at current levels of EV and automotive tech for a car as important as the 718 is to the brand. I don’t expect that anyone else will either. |

I'm pretty excited about the EV Boxster, and without an IC engine I'm guessing the interior is going to be a little more roomy for us taller people.

Part of the allure of a roadster is hearing the engine, rowing the gears, and having infinite range to roam. This contradicts those principles. Why buy one?

For me though, it's about the wind in the hair, sun in your eyes, connection with the road which I think an EV is fine for.

I shopped extensively for my next car just recently. Nothing about the Porsche interiors made me want one. A friend insisted the Boxter was a better choice than the Zed, however, he is a track guy. Mine will not be seeing the track. So, easy choice for me. The interior + 30% increase in price tag will keep me far far away from the Porsche brand until cost is no longer a consideration for things.

The slush went out of the box at least 15 years ago if not longer. Was a time, long gone, when an MT was the quick ticket home. Now its a nostalgic memory of times past that is still fun, but only fun.

Still waiting for my Z4 M40i but put my name on the list for the Cayman EV. Recently bought a Tesla Model 3 as our daily/shopping/airport car and been impressed with the EV performance. Can't place an order yet until officially released, but name on a "list" is a start. Had a Cayman S for many years and is a blast to drive through the canyons...

I do like BMW interiors more, except for the idiotic wall of screens awkwardly stuck to the dash of new models. Z4 doesn't have that problem, thankfully.

That being said, I will be adding an EV to my garage again sooner or later but most likley a sedan, heck if someone comes out with an EV roadster, one that I could afford which excludes Porsche, I'd consider that too.
