The defaults are LEDs. What the Shadowline package lights add is the extra cornering bulb and the darker housing.

It's been out a number of years, sells in very low volumes, and is on it's way out forever in another model year. No chance they are spending any development money putting new tech in it. We are incredibly lucky they actually bothered with the manual.

Agree. Though Nappa leather is hardly the cutting edge technology. I am not altogether complaining: for one thing it does not have that hideous iDrive 8.5. I would still prefer my olde 6wa cluster though.

Is the piping black or grey? It looks lighter on the cognac without the exclusive option.

If not, it’s a no brainer to add the shadowline pack. The additional black ties in but also requires a bit more PPF. |

I love the Adaptive headlights on my convertible 2021 M240… the new manual Z4 pretty much sealed the deal on the move back to a new Z4. Meeting with the dealer on Wednesday to get on an allocation list!

The headlights themselves also have darker color inserts, to blend with the shadow line package. IMO they are worth it. Edit: Want to add, the standard headlights are also full LED, just don't include this extra bulb. Edit #2: Also should add, if you're getting the manual it includes the mirror caps in black and the extended shadow line trim already. So to add the adaptive lights, it's only $550 (versus $950 on the automatic, because the package costs more).

Adaptive lighting functions Principle Adaptive lighting functions enable dynamic illumination of the road. General information The adaptive lighting functions may consist of one system or multiple systems, depending on the equipment version: Cornering light. Activating Press the button on the light switch. The LED in the button illuminates. The adaptive lighting functions are active when the drive-ready state is switched on. Cornering light Principle In tight curves, for instance on mountainous roads or when turning, an additional cornering light is switched on that illuminates the inside of the curve when the vehicle is moving below a certain speed. General information The cornering light is automatically switched on depending on the steering-wheel angle or, where applicable, the use of turn signals. When driving in reverse, the cornering lights may be automatically switched on regardless of the steering-wheel angle.

Bummer. Thanks for the info here. Jeez even my 2011 135i headlights swivel, which is actually kind of nice at night through the neighborhood.
So, Z4 headlights... As I can gather: 1) They essentially have 1 (and only 1) actual projector, and 2 of what I'd want to refer to as "angel eyes" even they they are more half moon shaped. 2) It seems those latter lights, the angel eyes, light up as DRL's (daytime running lights)? 3) The single projector can do some interesting tricks regarding oncoming drivers and splitting the light, but this is only available in Europe. US laws haven't caught up to the tech and so we don't get these functions in the US. But they can potentially be coded in. 4) The Adaptive package gains you the black headlight interiors, if that's a goal for aesthetics. 5) Adaptive is somewhat mislabeled, since there's not really so much adaptive anything actually going on. 6) The adaptive package does however turn on something to illuminate to the sides? Do we know if this is some trickery out of the projector after all, or is it more like the DRL angel eyes are just given some extra brightness? |

That would be awesome! No rush at all of course. Both local dealers indicate no Z4 allocations and unsure when they might have them so I'm still just finalizing what I'd order. I'd probably go w/ the fancy $550 lights either way being black inside and if they offer any night-time improvement at all. But I'm all about over thinking things! |

Ok, hopefully this helps. Apologies for the not great pictures. Of course the sun is coming in right where I'm parked in my garage. Also, I don't have much room in front of the car to get farther away.
First picture is showing the headlights with just the two DRLs on. Second picture is the low-beam headlight on, showing the single projector. In the third picture, it is the same as #2, except in blue I've circled where the "adaptive" bulb is, showing it unlit. Finally, in picture #4, I have the turn signal on. You can see (circled in blue) the additional bulb is now lit. In addition, that strip across the top of the headlight flashes orange. The timing of my picture was just such that it was in between blinks.
