I'm about to order a z4 30i (Misano Blue) and want to get the black grill. The BMW website builder does not have that as an option. I contacted my salesperson and he said that it would have to be ordered separately as "likely a 3rd party" option. Is that really the case? I see a ton of 30i pics with black front grills and they all look identical.

You can order the OEM black grills from bmwpartspros.com or getbmwparts.com and install them yourself. There's a thread a ways back that shows the steps. My car came with the chrome ones but I switched them to black.

Thanks -I understand you can order them from third-party but would prefer to order from the dealer. From my conversation with the salesman, he did not seem to think there was an OEM black grill. Just trying to get clarification on that.

Mine came with a black grill. I believe it was part of a package

getbmwparts.com is a BMW dealership. I have ordered from them many times with great service and no problems!!

Same here. I get all of my OEM parts from BMWPartsPros. They are affiliated with Steve Thomas BMW in SoCal (IIRC, they basically are an internet-based parts supplier run out of the parts department of the dealership). Their prices are great and the service is top-notch.

Depending on how you spec the car out, the black grills may not be available as a manufacturer installed option. But, the replacement is straightforward and takes about 20 minutes.

My car also came with the chrome exhaust tips, which I also replaced with the black ones.

I'm thinking of swapping mine to black, I have a '19 misano blue M sport 30i and with the all black lower grill and other black trim the chrome grills dont look right.

In Canada, we can order the black or silver (I wanted silver).....didn't realize that the US was different until I saw someone post they had to order the parts and swap to get the black.

Just order them and let the dealer know you will provide the parts and they are to install them as part of the deal. Even if it takes them only 20 minutes, they will likely charge you 1 hour of time normally (or whatever their minimum charge is). I am sure they will just throw it in or something if you include it in your negotiations.

I had ordered both parts and tools a while back, but a) had to remove license plate, b) I have two left thumbs and was too afraid to scratch or break something and c) I am lazy. I got a quote from a body shop to do it for me. But then my oil change came up and my dealer gave me a very reasonable quote to do this, so I just went with them for convenience - I printed out instructions from the forum, gave them parts and tools.

Now I just need to change the mirror caps to either body color or black. My favorite right now is body color.

Mine came from dealer this way. I have the "760 Shadowline exterior trim, N/C" line item within the "337 M Sport Package" and the "7M9 Extended Shadowline Trim, $300". I have seen it on several other dealer's cars. Fits the looks of Misano.

Yes for 30i, unfortunately the M40i doesn’t come with all black grille in USA.

Weird! In Canada the black mirror caps, front grille and shadowline can be optioned on the M40i.

There's also a silver soft top in Canada, but in the US there is one called Moonlit Black and it looks silver. I haven't seen any owner picture with a soft top other than black.

In Hong Kong, which is European spec., only M40i comes with Moonlit Silver soft top, 20i & 30i comes with black soft top.

Also, in Hong kong, the black grills (front & side) can only be ordered as a "black package" which have black grills, black wheels & black mirror cap together with upgraded HiFi to HK
