Shotgun versus AR. Really depends on your personal situation. Early this year we sold the city house and I retired to the farm on 24 acres. The coyotes have figured out the range on the shotguns.

This is also affected by ammo choice. Shotgun slug will go through a lot of drywall/siding.
I have a red laser on my 12 guage shotty that beams a read light on the target even far away. it has slugs and bird shot alternated in the magazine.

When I say home defense, I literally mean against someone invading your home (robbery, home invasion, whatever). For that, I do think a shotgun with shot (not slugs) is a better solution.

For plinking wild animals, yes, an AR is likely better. And more fun. My .308 chambered AR-10 would do a number on coyotes, I imagine.

What i grab I could grab a pistol, AR, AK, but I grab the pump 12 gauge with 00 low recoil buck so I can stay on target. I keep 4 slug rounds in the stock speed mag so if I need one I have it.

If I am wide awake and downstairs then my eight round pump 12 gauge would be my choice. However if I am awakened during the night and upstairs my choice is my 1911 with green laser and federal home defense rounds due to the tight corners

What do you think of some of the higher end 1911s, Wilson, Les Baer, Nighthawk, etc?

They are good as well. Seems little fancy boy to me, will be used not safe queen. May consider wilson later but not sure that will happen.

I don't own any safe queens. I use whatever I get regardless of what it is or how much it costs. Maybe if I had something worth 10k plus, or a presentation piece, or something fragile of historical significance. How about Kimber?

That's cool. May collect a few things actually but modern custom doesn't appeal to me.

Look into dan Wesson.
I saw a nice model online for under $1500.
Nicest 1911 under $2k I've ever handled. Comparable to an ed brown I fired.

I’ve read many positive things about Dan Wesson 1911s. I’d buy a Bruin for no good reason other than to have one.

Does look cool but adding more length to my barrel makes it harder to carry

I have an STI Trojan - 1911 pattern 9MM in hard chrome. Plan to do IDPA and USPSA with it, once I get past a few hurdles.

Meh, open carry the *bleep* out of it.

I watched Tombstone a couple of weeks ago...it made me wanna open carry my Ruger New Vaquero .44mag (3.75" bbl) and search GunBroker for a second one with a 5"+ bbl.

In that price range I agree, Dan Wessons are very nice, we don't get much variety out here in CA.

In that price range I would go either Dan Wesson or Springfield TRP

Back from the paint shop. Duracoated the handguard, magazines, safety levers, mag release, and bolt catch "Magpul Stealth grey" to match the stock and grip. It's a pretty close match. The lighting + iPhone just sucks.
