BMW as a whole is becoming this. Granted these are only spyshots but even for production shoots, for a billion dollar company you'd think they could afford better photographers to shoot the flattering angles.

Also it's been mentioned that it's a lot of cladding on these mule.

I had to stare at the stacked tips for like 30 seconds before it hit me that they make a stylized number "8" lol

Quite right. In addition, I suspect one of the major reasons for launching XM is the desire by BMW AG to maximize profitability during the next few years before ICE powertrains are subjected to cylinder reduction and eventual retirement.

I get such RR vibes from the front half of these prototypes. Wouldn't be surprised to see a rebadged RR spinoff from this as well.

RR uses their own platforms now. Highly doubt BMW is using RR platforms either.

The X8 will be the same....
A Q8 is much larger than a Q5. You don't have to like it, but not everyone wants a 7 passenger SUV and having a 5 seat option of a larger SUV makes sense.
This.

I want 7-Series rear legroom in an SUV, along with enough space for luggage and cargo behind the rear seats. Am I asking too much?

The Aston DBX seems to be the closest to what I'm after.

Rolls Royce
The X8/XM is more closely related to the Cullinan and iX than the X7.

Just to throw this out there to be read by the decision makers, call it the 8er/M8 Gran Turismo.

I would use that assumption too. The XM is (kind of) BMW's Cullinan.
But Rolls are planning to go smaller with another high-sided vehicle.

XM and iX are to put it one way "bookends" for Both BMW M and BMWi respectively.
But to better understand XM it in its individuality and it's purpose? Think Range Rover Velar but for a higher class and a performance segment.

FYI- BMW, MB and Audi are all guilty of fake exhausts for the sake of styling.

Not sure why BMW keeps screwing around with some of their iconic styling cues. I guess the plan is to make it look less like a BMW.

It's always cute seeing some dude in his FWD 2er try to stunt. The fact somebody even considered that car tells me all I need to know about how much of a car (ahem badge*) "enthusiast" they are.
