BMW Z4 M40i frozen grey II

I just purchased a brand new 2021 Z4 M40i frozen grey full optionals with red interiors. What a beautiful car. Reading in this forum I learned that this paint is not the same as the other regular colors and in order to protect it the car should be either ceramic coated or XpaI wrapped.

Yesterday when I take ownership of the car I discussed this issue with my dealer and he told me to not worry too much because while there were problems in the past, this updated matte grey color is not so delicate (he called it v2), as long as I do not wax the car or use an automatic car wash. Do you know if it is true?

I do not want to wrap the car with film, and unfortunately the dealer does not offer the ceramic coating service, and if I want it I need to use a third-party shop (which I do not trust). The dealer also told me that the ceramic coating can slightly change the color of the car, making it somewhat shiny.

I read somewhere in this forum that I can detail the car with this specialized kit from Dr. Beasley (https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Beasleys-M...205504&sr=8-23).

This kit has a matte paint coating that need to be applied every 1-2 years. It seems to me that it works similarly to the ceramic coating. Is it true? Should I use this kit or do the ceramic coating somewhere and then just hand-wash the car periodically?
Thanks for the advice.

I had the same concerns. I purchased the Dr B kit myself. Its awesome. I would suggest wrapping the front bumper though. Also little section behind front and rear wheels (4 inch triangle). I would skip the kit and just get the coating and the cleaner. I use Maguires car wash that you can get at harbor freight. Its approved for matte paint. Before applying coating use a spray bottle of distilled water first. Buy lots of foam pads and micro fiber towels. Paint feels super smooth after applying and nothing works better on that titanium plastic. Definitely easier than waxing. Only downside is scratches cant be buffed out.

As discussed about 4 months ago in a thread I highly recommend you prep the car - iron decontaminate, clay, shampoo, wipe each panel down with diluted 70% iso and apply CQuartz UK 3.0. Let the first coat cure overnight in a garage and apply a second coat to the front areas - grill, bumper, mirrors, etc. Stuff is amazing.

Thanks all for the feedback. What about the bmw special nano wax? https://www.shopbmwusa.com/product/4...ECIAL-NANO-WAX

Is is worth to buy instead or together with the Dr. Beasley’s matte paint coating?

P.s. the car is in a garage but I live in Phoenix with >110F in the summer months

$188! That's nuts. Check out online supply stores. Think I got Cquartz for about $45 on a discount which they frequently offer, like 25% off.

Just got off the phone with our BMW genius and he recommended ceramic coating for the frozen paints. I'm also putting Gyeon's leather ceramic coating on my new Z4 seats.

You paid for this paint job, so why cover it up with ceramic. I live in NY and daily drive my car. Had it for a year.No problems! At least try Dr. B first. Its only $100. But wrap that bumper. Hood not needed. I have no problems.

I got the special wax and the matte shampoo for free from the dealer (Retail cost $250 both!!!). The wax jar is incredibly small (cube for comparison). I will try them this weekend and post the result later on.

Best car wash/shampoo I've ever used, by one of the best brands too. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I finally had time to wash the car with the BMW matte paint special shampoo and use the special nano wax. The wax doesn't add any shine to the paint and I really like it. After the application the paint feels soft at touch. Please note that although it cost a fortune (~$200) you will need very small amount each time, and there is still plenty of wax in the jar after one application (see pics).
