So there shouldn't be any quality issues from S. Africa? I assume German made is better.

I have read that the S Africa factory consistently tops BMW's internal quality ratings.

Half of the quality battle comes from good engineering design, logistics and process design - all things determined in Germany. Those Germans are fanatical about specifying everything to the n'th degree and I would suspect that they couldn't sneeze in S Africa without it being part of the German production plan - and I like it that way.

And BMW Werks Shenyang- China

Though you'll probably never see one, they produce for the China market only and I think they do so from knockdown kits as opposed to a full up plant like Leipzig.

My vehicle is on order and not even in the system as of yet. Is the VIN available as soon as production starts? If not, when is it issued? I am trying to find out where it will be produced.

My 330i just whet into production on 9/14/05, and I have been given a VIN#. Based on the VIN# assigned, my car is being built in Germany's Regensburg plant.

The day after I place the order I received the Production #.
I did track the status with the Prod. # till the status changed in
"scheduled for production". Few days after the production started I
got the VIN
