Got a ticket, but the record shows a wrong plate number..

I got a ticket on the other day, but couple days later when I checked up the status of the ticket and the exact price, I found out that my plate number was WRONG.

On the paper ticket I've got shows all the information including last 4 digits of VIN, registeration expiration mo/yr, car make, color.. etc...

Only the plate number on their database shows a wrong plate number

SHOULD I STILL PAY THE TICKET??

It's the most expensive ticket I ever get, over $300.

if you can, go to court. a lot of the time the cop won't even show up and it gets dropped.

Yes.. that could help, but the ticket was issued just a day before I moved from the Bay Area to San Diego. It's kinda hard to go to the court.

I guess the wrong plate number means nothing and I will have to pay it?

ahh i know how you feel. i got a ticket on the way driving down to florida from connecticut for going 60 in a 55!

so i just paid the ticket and they said they were going to suspend my license (3 incidents in 2 years, they're strict as hell there!) so I had to go to a 12 hour driving school in florida and there were a bunch of people who had been in jail several times, had more than 15 tickets, had gotten DUI and DWI..and I was like "well, I got 3 tickets-failure to yield right of way at a stop sign, driving too fast for road conditions, and speeding 60 in a 55" and everyone looked at me like "whaaaat?!?!??"

such crap.

I would have a go at challenging it - what have you got to loose? If they got the number plate wrong, what else is wrong?

I've had that exact same thing happen, and took it to court. The judge said that my license got the ticket, not the car, so it didn't get dismissed. If my DL# were wrong, it'd be a different story.

this is a false assumption. ummm, let me see.....a cop get the day off with pay for going to court. hmmmmm i wonder if he is going to go or not???

i had the same problem, but instead i got traffic ticket. the cop somehow wrote down my plates wrong too, but they still sent home a letter. i took it to court and they said i still have to pay for it. ok, the only thing you can really do is ask for a reduce fine. just write them a sobbing story, i did it and they reduce my fine from $100 to $38. you really have nothing to lose. try it out. didnt you know blue zone = handicapp???

No. I'm not a cop.. you must've been mistaken..
If I were a cop, I woudn't worry about the ticket.. would I?
Or, should I?

yeah, I parked at a handicapped place. I thought it was okay, becasue it was 9 pm and the spot is inside a university family housing. So I got a ticket from the university police. Like I said, I only parked there for 10 minutes....

But they know that it's a BMW and also know the last four digit of my VIN and the expiration date of my license plate.(yr/mo sticker on the plate)
