It sounds about right - and about as close as you can cut it. He said on 8/18 that he pulled the trigger the week before, so the week of 8/7 (or week 32.) That's 3 weeks prior to the build week.

Mine case was very similar. I ordered on 3/2. The dealer had an unsold allocation in Status 111. When he updated the configuration to my spec and marked it as sold to a customer, it almost immediately shifted to Status 112. It then went to Status 150 on 3/6, 4 days after I ordered it, and was built on 3/21.

Oh wow, slightly envious here, that's amazing turnaround! Is this an allocation they were going to order a dealer-spec car in then?

Oh got it, thought it was same week from initial pulling the trigger to it going to production.

I ordered said yes to the dealer on 8/12, got build sheet with 111 on 8/14. Status tracker online still shows "order received".

Yes - they even did the dealership version and changed it for my preference. I was negotiating with two dealerships and they both gave same discounts and when I was planing to go with the other one,
This dealership said I got an early build! That made my decision… pure luck I would say today production completed and quality check!! Super excited.. may be I will catch the Sept 2nd ship now.. not sure…

Mine did too... twice. Depends on whether or not you already have an allocation.

In transit as of this morning! According to my original production order its destination port is SSIPOA (Brunswick, GA).

According to the schedule, looks like it's on the Apollon Highway and should arrive in Brunswick on 9/24. I'm heading out to California on vacation for the week - guessing it should be at the dealership within a week of hitting the port?

Either Apollon or the Orion. I think it takes a couple days for the status to update. Call the Genius line to see what ship that you're on. I'm genuinely curious. I am HOPING that I'll see my status update soon and that it's on the Niagara Highway that leaves Bremerhaven today. We'll see.

Quick question regarding priority levels. I just placed a deposit on a 24 M40i (build below) that was ordered for dealer stock and is currently a Priority 3 - Dealer Stock. The car is on the ship and due to hit the port late next week. Does anyone know if having the CA change the priority level to 1 (sold) will expedite the car passing through the VPC and onto the dealers lot? I’m not even sure it can be done at this late stage - someone suggested that the order “locks” when the car goes into production. Thanks for any insight, all!

Once you sign the proposal sheet and place the deposit it will flip to priority 1 customer sold. That should theoretically speed it up. I’ve done this twice recently and got the car quickly. But I can’t prove that it helped speed it up.

The biggest impact of being Priority 1 is getting to State 112, Scheduled for production, and State 150, Production begins. That's where BMW has the most flexibility. In my case, when the dealer converted a dealer build to my order, it immediately flipped from 111 to 112.

Once it's built, it's mostly a logistics issue and BMW only has so much control over the shippers. When the car gets to the port, BMW has no control over the off-loading or Customs processing. Within the VPC, there are two paths, one for cars with accessory installs and one for everyone else. If you fall into the first, there could be priority handling but I expect virtually every car in that queue is a customer car (dealers don't order port installed options for inventory cars). At the end of that, you're all in a shipping queue. Aside from priority, they're going to want to minimize trucks and stops. That means putting all the cars headed for your dealer on the same transport. The only way priority would help is if there are multiple transports headed for your dealer, or there are dealers without any customer sold cars that would push them back in the queue.

When availability was a issue, that likely made a difference. Realistically, unless it's being held for some reason (like PCD), most cars make it out of the VPC in 2-3 days.

I got really lucky on mine, took another dealer's allocation, placed my deposit and it went into production the next day.

But mine is still sitting in port. I suspect it's going to be leaving in 2 days.

At the Port was by far the worst part for me. Was there 5 & 1/2 weeks. Fingers crossed yours is on the boat and just hasn't updated. Mine took a day or so to update once it was actually on the ship.

Yeah and I figure as much too. I just wanted to take delivery before I went on vacation to be done with this. I'm excited for the car, but honestly just hate the car buying experience more than anything lol.

Hold out hope! Took 4 full days for status to update for me just looking at the vessel's history.
