There is no definitive answer to this question. Some of us like the HK system and others think the base system is perfectly fine.

I have it and think it is worth the additional cost.

The HK is alright, more wattage then base system, I suppose that’s a good thing.

I passed on other CPO Z4 cause they lacked it, for resale it’s nice to have.

I normally trade in my cars so that won't matter but the more wattage may mean it's easier to hear phone calls through the HK system. Guess for $875 it's a throw away and I'll give it a chance. Thank you!

At the end of the day, the music source (ie, lossless audio) and type of music you enjoy does affect your perception of how good the music sounds. 😉

Makes sense, thanks. I’ll likely be listening to the burbles more than music. Yacht Rock Radio for the win when the hits are flowing though!!

My dealer tried to tell me some of these numbers are bogus. Can’t wait to see their face if the above is accurate as I suspect they are!

The difference between lossless and high bitrate compressed audio actually quite small and cannot be resolved by most systems.

As someone who got the HK audio, I don't think it's capable enough for lossless to come into play. That said, if you're using a low bitrate path you will notice it.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Apple Music does give you lossless audio.

Also, there are some satellite radio stations that do the same.

Numbers from my sales order match those Rcasa quoted, except that I did not include charger or ZHO which means I do not have adaptive headlights.

I could send you my order sheet and you can tell them to shove it.

That aside... Checked the status today. It's now in 151 "Exterior body assembly begins." Thought production isn't supposed to start until March?!

Edit: Now with a screenshot

That’s odd, but I think my M5 CS went into production before the scheduled date as well. Or, maybe it’s just a computer logging the vin. Either way, I checked mine and it hasn’t progressed.

Guess they are used to selling SUVs right off the lot. Try working with another dealer?

Production dates are the date the car goes through final assembly. "Production Begins" is about 2 weeks prior to the production date. It means all parts have been allocated and are queued in the system. At that point a VIN is assigned to the vehicle. Exterior body assembly begins about a week later. That takes about a day followed by 4-5 days in paint before assembly begins, which takes less than a day.

I always get the HK radios, but they aren't really good. The base radio system is of course even worse. At the end of the day I buy these cars for the driving dynamics so I have learned to set aside the lackluster audio.

I'd say if you are an audiophile save the $875 and go aftermarket.

I wasn't planning to order them either. It's $550 for that, it won't break the budget but I realize I actually rarely drive at night and when I do I tend to take my X3. Neat feature but I don't think I (or other drivers on the road) will get much use out of it.

I don't disagree. I've found that, for my music anyhow, the only thing really lacking is the lowest octave or so, I haven't measured it but I'd guess that it's around 40Hz and below is where the HK system sort of tapers off. For my 135i I added an amp that both powered the underseat 8" speakers as well as a sealed 10" box in the trunk, and that made me very happy with the rest of the HK system after that. It could be music dependent though, if one wanted really great vocals they might not be thrilled with the rest of the system. I just want loud and clear so it's fine for me.

I don’t care about the lights either but for $550 it says extended shadowline trim which mean even more blackout I believe. That I will pay for.

The black mirror caps and "Extended Shadow Line Package" are included with the manual option.

That said, the "Shadow Line Package" adds the adaptive headlights in a darker housing. Without ZHO the headlight housing is more gray than black.

Check the pricing guide, Judging by it, you may already be getting those things. If you are aiming for a manual anyhow. The ZED package (the manual) includes the 3BE black mirror caps and the 7M9 extended shadowline trim. If you are not going for the ZED package then yes, perhaps, you may wish to have that ZHO option.

I guess I replied without realizing you already had. Hmm, this is an interesting thing to make decisions harder!

Think you’re right. So, they discounted the package to $550 basically for the lights. Just read about the full LED lights and for that I do want them.
