The end is near

The March/April edition of Car and Driver reports that the Z4 will not make it past the current model run. Grab a manual while you can! The report even states that a Z4 won’t come back as even an EV.

I already got my Z4, fortunate to own such a great roadster.

Super unfortunate. There’s not many other options out there for this type of vehicle

Lol, nobody knows what BMW is going to do. It might not be called a "Z4" but BMW will certainly produce another 2-seater in the future.

Surely this is the end of the road for new internal combustion models though.

Has there been an electric convertible since the Tesla roadster?

I recall reading on one of the blogs that they almost called the G29 a Z5 so perhaps that will be used in the future if they decide to build a new roadster.

It seems like we are seeing a change in the "the future is EV" philosophy. Both Mercedes and Audi have recently announced they are going to continue to develop and produce petrol/Diesel engines for the foreseeable future. Mercedes had previously committed to an all-electric fleet. Toyota is almost entirely producing non-plugin hybrids. Ford supposedly has LOTS of Lightning trucks sitting on lots unsold. No demand. I think infrastructure (both grid and charging) has to be drastically developed to handle the demand of a mass increase in EVs. Just my .02.

True, and you're lucky if it's an option. Not for us in the US unfortunately. I wish it was, I really do!!!

Very true. All about the marketing and semantics. It could very well be that they come out with something even more amazing. That is the way of the car game after all.

Most certainly going to be the case. Just a new name so they can hype it up.
