Goes without saying, only thing he needs is equal equipment and it's on. Kid was raised to be a killer. Crazy talented and ruthless. We need 19 more of him on the grid.

We have that. It's called F2 and the rest of the lesser formulae.

Not to mention, FAVORING hulk as his next teammate? Inviting a proper rival and potential challenger into the team. Dude is looking to collect scalps. The more credible the rival, the better. I love it.

F1's problem is that there aren't more Max's. To hell with all of the hierarchical team arrangements.

Equal as in capable of consistently competing against the mercs without heroics or luck. You know what I mean...

Favoring Hulk isn't the same thing as favoring Perez. Perez would be a proper challenge. I'm not impressed that he is favoring Hulk.

They have the opportunity. They have gone in and doubled down on an unstable platform. They have wasted 2 years with a car that could only be managed by 1 driver. Gasly has proven himself and that the car was the problem, not him. It's a travesty.

They have the same budget as Mercedes for all practical purposes. They should be doing a better job in their car development not bemoaning Mercedes and complaining about unequal cars. It's ridiculous.

I think both would be suitable teammates and challenges. Just appreciate that he's not talking up Albon's progress or suggesting they invite Gasly back because of his uptrend at AT.

No dispute on Merc's well deserved dominance.

As for how tricky and individual the RBR platform really is, we'd find out if they sign "off the couch for a points finish" Hulk and he can't figure it.

Remember Max sure didn't take much time to adjust. Won on RBR debut.

Great post!

I really think PER is a notch above HUL, his excellent substitution performance notwithstanding.

I think we know it's really tricky and this is the management problem RBR developed for themselves. They have really junior drivers who don't have experience developing a top F1 platform. This is still apparent with VER and this isn't a cut at him...it's a fact of the situation.

Max's win was a great drive not from the standpoint that he won after the Mercs crashed (Thanks ROS) but from the standpoint that he kept a faster Ferrari behind. It was a masterful drive but my fav Max drive is his win this year in GB. Controlled. Composed. Highly managed and worthy of a WDC. As I shared with Philippe, it was his first WDC level drive.

That’s about as Max will accomplish. Ham will take next year again and Ferrari will bounce back for 2022 with Leclerc demolishing Max.

How I became F1 youngest winner....I watched the other drivers in front of me crash out.
Verstappen could have been F1 youngest pole sitter except Ricciardo beat him to pole in equal equipment at Mexico IIRC.

I'm a Gasly fan. I was happy to see him get the RBR seat, and dismayed to see him lose it. But it took him time to settle back into the Alpha Tauri seat too; his ascendancy this year has been after several races.

RBR is run by people who think that there is winning, and then there is the rest of it. They are very clearly a team with a #1 and a #2 driver. Like Ferrari used to be. The sad thing is that they don't see how that hobbles them as a team, and damages the opportunities of their best driver to have the best results. Mercedes gets that part right and it shows in their success.

Wow mate ! That's really amazing !

EDIT : Hope RIC was sober that day , and was aware of it...

Hint: winning a race because the guys in front of you crash out is not the same as winning on merit.

Would Verstappen have won without the retirements ahead of him...no
Did he win on merit...no.

There were times when RBR had the better car and Verstappen still didn't win...think Monaco.
Ricciardo winning that race with a energy recovery failure...now that is winning on merit.

This brings me back to the MP4-24. Max has never driven a car as bad as the 2009 McLaren yet Lewis has 4 pole positions and 2 race wins in it. Max has had much better machinery each year he's been at Red Bull Racing and only has 2 pole positions in his entire career.

His best opportunities have always been in Mexico, Singapore, Monaco, and Hungary. That is over 20 chances in tracks that suit the design philosophy of the Red Bull and yet only 2 pole positions. This is a very big blot on his resume.

Cheers-mk
