Yes it seems a strange omission considering all other new BMWs have it, including the F40 1-series. Doesn´t make much sense to me!

I read an article that mentioned the gesture capability is performed by a small camera that is angled down into the cabin, so perhaps the soft top made it incompatible (nowhere for the camera to live)?

The strange thing is if you wave your hand in front of the sat nav screen , the right hand side menus appear, so it would seem something is there?

Gesture control requires more roof than G29's have, due to the cameras used.

The car isn't so huge that I have difficulty reaching the iDrive controller. In my wife's G01 we never ended up using Gesture Control after playing with it for the first couple of days. That's surely in part because we've long been accustomed to using the iDrive controller, but it's also because Gesture Control only works for a limited number of functions and isn't nearly as reliable as using hard controllers.

Moreover, the volume and other controls on the steering wheel always work and don't require the driver to remove a hand from the steering wheel to use.
