If you going to drive it in the snow, the R8 is going to be tough. The 911 is great in the snow with the proper tires. You did say DD and you are New York.

The rear seats in the 911 are very useful for storage and kids, so its actually more useful as a DD.

But can't go wrong with a R8.

If you can afford a 991, its chassis is far superior then the 997 and its far better DD.

That R8 is just posing in the snow. Mine was just driven through 8 inches of snow in this picture. Notice how even the wheels are full of snow!!! As a DD, it's great and it's got great road feel, feedback, power, and comfort.

Only things wrong is the lack of storage space - had a hard time fitting a big computer box in it - had to take the parts out of the box and golf bags when 2 people are going. Had to put both sets of clubs in the passenger seat and made the wife sit in the back LOL.

It doesn't have the road presence of a Ferrari or Lambo or even an R8, but that's a good thing for a DD. Now, if you're looking for attention, this isn't the car.

Umm no. I guess you are unaware who's car that is. It is quite famous. There is just a ski carrier for absolutely no reason.

the problem with the R8 and lambo are there how low the car sits. You can put some winters on on and get traction. but you will be a snow plow on somedays.

does a stock r8 sit that much lower than the turbo?

hey toothdoc, have you driven an r8 v10? if so, how do you compare?

besides the attention you get with the r8, for me its all about being a "bargain" lambo; i just LOVE the v10.

but than a porsche tt is a porsche tt: no substitute.

if i could i would get both, but i can only choose one ....

Get the R8, you'll have a bigger smile on your face every time you see it in the garage.

991 has been out for 4 models years (2012, 2013, 2014, and now 2015), or about half the life cycle of the 991 generation seeing as the facelift is on its way.

And on the track, no contest as the 911 has it in spades. And for about the same price so long as you dont add frivolous options. Mind anyone here, the 991 has been out for 4-5 years now. Says a lot when everyone shoots for it since its the benchmark and its still dominating comparos and best this or best that.

The 991.2 will be fantastic to say the least.

If straight line speed is what youre after then there are better cars for that even though these are plenty fast.

There is no MY 2012 991. It started as MY 2013. I guess we do car math differently. Since it is end of 2014 now, I look at it as the 991 being out less than 3 years.

Anyways, rumour is all non GT3s 991.2 will be all turbos, so grab a 991 now if you like NA engines.

Wait, what? The 991 started as a 2012 model.

Either way its close to about 50% of its life cycle being completed and has been out for a good amount of time now.

Yup, 3.0L TB motors. S models will probably be around 450HP now.
Glad I have my NA 911s.

Actually 2012 is the first year the 991, you could however get the 997.2 in 2012 as well in certain models that hadn't hit the 991 platform yet (ie. GTS, GT3 RS 4.0)

Good point. And there is nothing better than hitting big iceballs in the road with your 150k car.

The 991 started as a MY 2012 and as I said is on its 4th model year (2015).

Thanks for the clarification re 2012MY.

My point is 991 hit US shores beginning of 2012, less than 3 years ago. Not a terribly old model in my books, irrespective of how many model years.

Actually I believe the 991s started being delivered in Fall/Winter 2011 as a 2012 model...so its over 3 years old.

My point is that each generation is usually ~7 years, thus the 991's life is 50% over.

My original point that was that despite the 991 being several years old and everyone gunning for it as its the benchmark, its still dominating every competition/comparo especially when you consider a lot of these cars were just launched for 2015 and the 991 has been around since late 2011...so much so it's as if they dont even need to do a revised 991.2.

Please understand that I am just trying to be as accurate as possible since I made a boo boo regarding deliveries of 991 in US shores early 2012 which I erroneously said that it is MY 2013. It did arrive in 2012 as MY 2012.

The car was only unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show September 2011.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_991

Here is a thread about ordering and deliveries of 991 which started in 2012. I do not believe there is any that is delivered in 2011.

http://rennlist.com/forums/991/68784...n-of-info.html

I was in the market for one and waited one year so that the first year pain is sorted out hence I am quite sure when it arrived in North America.

Here is another thread about pics of 991 which is started in 2012.

http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...oad-yours.html

Anyways, I am sure we are both P-cars lover and it is all good
