Lane Knowledge - How do they do it?
OK, my Z4 knows which lane I am in when on a freeway, even with 4 or 5 lanes. And it seems pretty accurate about it as well. How do they do it?
Guesses: - GPS? But GPS is not that accurate. - Camera? Perhaps the same system that knows when I drift out of a lane, but if so I'm impressed since is seems to have a much wider view than the current lane and excellent AI to process it.

What do you mean they know? The navigation points you to what lane you need be in.

Note, my wife has a '21 X3 and it does not do this. Difference might be executive package.

Might have something to do with lane sensors? I don’t have executive package and I don’t usually use the onboard Nav. I’ll have to pay attention next time.

For those that are not sure what I'm talking about, here are some shots showing first that I was two lanes over from where I needed, then one lane, then in the correct lane. And it was very precise as I changed lanes.

Imma test mine when I pick up my kid today to see if it's included in my car's software. I did NOT get the executive package. But you got me curious. I usually use my phone Google maps or waze when I drive. Rarely do I use the bmw app or the integrated navigation.
