Based on the time it takes to get one, I can’t see anyone (read: enough to justify offering it) having the patience to go through with it.

I have the patience. It would be worth the wait, for sure.

Is there going to be an increased cost? As already noted, any higher in price and you are pushing Porsche money. The MT Supra costs more than the better equipped Auto and has limited options. It's also a lot less money than a well equipped Z4.

Don't get me wrong, I like a MT. But it's complaining that a MacBook you want to buy doesn't have a CD player, so you won't get it. You won't miss it, even if you think you will.

As such, if you want a manual Z4, buy a Supra.
Sorry, but the Supra is not only butt ugly, it's not an open-top roadster. Bring on the Z4 M40i with 6MT, and stop the naysaying! I've already spoken with three different BMW dealerships in Southern California, and all of them are very confident this car is coming next year.

I also have patience. I’m only interested in this car now that the M40i MT is a rumor. The 718 I want is more expensive and the dealership games are a mess. I’m still disappointed in the colors offered, but could make one of them work as I like the rest of the package. IOMG on this vehicle would be chef’s kiss, but I can’t imagine that happening.

Uh, no, I just won't buy either then.

I’m thinking my lease is up in 2.5 yrs. Just in time to get the manual. Then again, I’ll probably be buried due to the miles I keep packing on this thing.

Can’t disagree on the Supra looks (however it’s not too bad in person, but that isn’t saying a lot).

Hopefully your salespeople are much better at being in the know. I would think we’d see some kind of spy shots by now. I can’t believe the Germans would just ‘chuck a manual in it’ and call it done. Maybe they are waiting to see how the Supra fairs?

It isn't fair to say that the Supra is butt ugly as beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!

I am not a Supra customer but we must remember that vehicle appeals to a much younger demographic and they love everything about it.

Whether you think the Supra is butt ugly or not, it's not an open top roadster… so a stick-shift Z4 is still very much needed!

Anyone know if the 2023 Z4 will have iDrive 8?

I believe they will stay would iDrive 7 as there hasn't been any discussion about changing the interior of the Z4 on the major blogs.

Curious which dealerships specifically. I've asked around down here too and nothing.

If they stay with iDrive7 that means you will still have physical buttons. The lack of them in iDrive 8 has been a major complaint for many on the iDrive 8 thread located in the General BMW News forum.

Just a 6spd manual is not enough for me to trade in mine. A S58 6spd is however.

Nobody knows for sure, it's all speculation. For what it's worth my SA speculates it will be announced in December, with order banks opening more or less immediately, and go into production March 2023.

That would be quite weird for them to wait until December, considering that the 2023 Supra is available now.

From what I can tell, the 2022 info was available around August 2021. If there are few/no changes as some predict, I'd expect to see the 2023 model go up about yesterday.

If we really don't hear until December, there must be something a lot bigger than an updated front bumper coming.

I hope you're right but everything I've read to this point suggests nearer the end of this year with production for the US not starting until after the New Year.

As for something bigger updated, again I hope you're right but I suspect it more likely is related to supply chain issues, all speculation on my part.

A couple points of reference:
  • 2023 G20 3 series LCI Facelift was announced May 17, 2022 with a U.S. market launch of July, 2022.
  • 2022 X3 / X4 LCI Facelift was announced June 8th, 2021. Production began in August 2021.
  • The E89 Z4 LCI Facelift was announced December 17, 2012 and began production in March 2013. However, these cars were actually 2014 model years.

Historically it seems like production begins two months after announcement. I'd say that it is possible they announce the LCI in September and production begins as early as November. They could also do a repeat of the E89 Z4, and announce it in December as a 2024 MY.

Our Z4 model arrived at dealers in March'ish as a 2020 model. So yes, would make sense for the LCI to come in March 2023 as a '24 model.

I’m starting to become sorry that I asked lol. There isnt much on the used market unless I want to buy blue. I’m really looking for white so that won’t work. Guess I’ll just wait to see if we can start submitting orders before something decent used comes available.
