New Car Repair History

Hi Guys,

I bought a new BMW X1 MY 2023 on Jan 26, 2024. I got a good discount of $5,500 of MSRP out of $45,595 (at least I thought so).
During delivery I discovered a scratch in rubber trim of windshield, Salesman said he will get it fixed later. We got it replaced in service center without any cost yesterday.

Then I got handed over couple of pages, one page called "Repair History(Claims)" that had following entry :

Repair Entry Date: 12/21/2023
Mileage: 5
Defect Code Description: 11999977BV QCI SPOT DELIVERY

Repair Entry Date: 12/20/2023
Mileage: 2
Defect Code Description: 0051730500 VDC Only - U11 - Deformation Panel Headliner

What does it mean, does it mean car was delivered to dealer with some defect and it was repaired at VDC ?
Did dealer have this information before sale of the car ?

I feel cheated that this was not revealed to me before sale. Please suggest what should I do?

I'd enjoy the car and stop worrying. Neither of those sounds serious and it sounds like you got a decent discount.

The fact there were repairs done so early on, with barely any miles on the car, your dealer probably knew about these issues when they sold you the car. These repairs are not a big deal. But this kind of info should have been shared with you before the sale. You might want to chat with the dealership about this.

The first entry is just the entry that is made when the dealer receives the car. It’s there for 100% of BMWs in the U.S.

It does appear the second entry is a repair made at the VDC. It is not the least bit uncommon for cars to be damaged during shipment and the VDC makes repairs all day long every day. They have factory level repair facilities. They repair relatively minor body damage all the time and unless the damage meets a fairly high dollar threshold the customer, and, in fact, possibly the dealer, is never notified a repair was made.

For the VDC replacing a headliner is basically nothing. You are not owed anything because of it. Don’t stress yourself over it. I’m not 100% certain that “VDC” entry means what we think it means, because normally VDC repairs never appear on anything either the dealer or the consumer ever sees. The way it would normally go is even if your car got a dent in the quarter panel during shipping and the VDC repaired it there is nothing you or the dealer would ever see that would tell you that. VDC work does not show up on the Vehicle Warranty Inquiry. That’s the name of the document you saw. I’m sure someone wasn’t paying close attention, because they do not normally provide that document to the customer.

That is exactly what I thought. A VDC repair which is quite common. Nothing to worry about.
